MINOR A FOOTBALL DIV 1 LEAGUE FINAL

Na Fianna Minor Footballers missed out on making it a Championship & League double success as after winning the Minor A Championship last month they lost out to Tullamore in the Minor Football Div 1 League Final last Sunday in O’Connor Pk, Tullamore on a scoreline of 2-15 to 1-05 and in doing so Na Fianna relinquished the title they won last year. Tullamore who lost out in the Championship Semi Final were the hungrier on this occasion as they were determined to claim some silverware for their year’s exploits and it showed in their blistering start to the game opening the scoring with the first 4 points within 3 mins of the throwin all from their wing forward Jay Sheerin. Tullamore added another point before Na Fianna got on the scoreboard in the 13th min with a goal when Offaly Minor Footballer of the Year Morgan Tynan’s lobbed shot from outside the square was deflected to the net by the Tullamore keeper. This would prove to be Na Fianna’s only score of the half as Tullamore added 1-04 in the final 10 mins of the half to lead at the break by 1-09 to 1-00. Any hope of a Na Fianna comeback were quashed within 3 mins of the re-start as Tullamore scored their 2nd goal. Thereafter the sides closed out the game with Na Fianna raising 5 white flags to add to the first half goal while Tullamore added 6 points before their captain Corey White was presented with the cup by Offaly fixtures secretary Pauric Pierce.
