SENIOR B FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP RD 7

Despite a valiant effort the season is over for Raheen Senior Footballers as they lost out to Tubber in the Senior B Championship Quarter Final last Sunday evening in Mucklagh on a scoreline of 0-13 to 1-08. Down 2 players from the previous round Raheen were dealt another blow just 2 mins in when Mikey Keogh was forced off injured. Tubber opened the scoring with the first 2 points before Jack O’Brien got Raheen on the scoreboard on 6 mins with their first point and Brian Crombie adding a second on 12 mins to equalise but Tubber responded immediately with their 3rd to go back in front. This is how it remained until the last 5 mins of the half when Tubber hit a blitz of 5 points to Raheen’s 1 to go into the break leading 0-08 to 0-03. Both sides added a point apiece early in the second half before Raheen struck for their goal on 4 mins when Conor McNally’s aerial shot in was won by James Lalor outside the 21 and he sidestepped  a few Tubber men before blasting past the keeper to the net. This cut the lead to 2 points which Raheen managed to cut to 1 15 mins later by adding 4 points to Tubber’s 3 but another point for Tubber on 20 mins doubled their lead back to 2 points. This proved to be the final score of the game as despite creating a few chances they could just not get the finishing touch on them so Tubber held on for the win and will now meet neighbours Ballycumber in the Semi Final.

Na Fianna club notes

U15 A FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP PLAY OFF

Na Fianna U15 Football No 1 Team’s Championship aspirations are over for this year after losing out to Ferbane / Belmont in their Play Off for 3rd place in the group last Monday week in Durrow on a scoreline of 3-06 to 2-04. Ferbane opened the scoring with the first 2 points before Na Fianna opened their account and took the lead with their first goal on 8 mins when Adam Joyce’s shot in from the wing was punched to the net by Jack Kelly. Straight from the kickout though Ferbane went down the field and scored their first goal. This is how it remained until the final 5 mins of the half when both sides added 2 points each followed also by a goal each with Na Fianna’s effort coming in stoppage time when Geordi O’Meara’s free from half way landed in the square in front of Robbie Gallagher who flicked it past the keeper to the net. This left it just 2-04 to 2-02 to Ferbane / Belmont at the break. A breakaway move 6 mins into the second half saw Ferbane score their 3rd goal to strech clear and again this is how it remained until the last 10 mins as both sides then completed their tally with 2 points apiece and so Ferbane held on to claim the win.

U17 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP WHITE GROUP

This year’s playing campaign for Na Fianna Minor Footballers came to an end last Sunday morning as the No 2 Team completed their Championship group stage programme in the White Group against Shamrocks only team in Rahan. As Shamrocks had 3 of the Offaly Minors starting team in their ranks Na Fianna were always going to be up against it an so it proved to be as Shamrocks ran out comfortable winners on a scoreline of 5-10 to 1-08. The damage was done in the first half as Shamrocks playing down the hill took full advantage scoring 5 goals with 4 of those coming in the final 10 mins of the half which saw them lead at the break 5-05 to 0-03. In the second half Na Fianna steadied the ship and a fine goal on 12 mins from James Bryan was the highlight of the half as he caught a line ball out on the wing between the 21 and 45 working his way in before shooting past the keeper. Otherwise both sides added 5 points apiece in the second half. Shamrocks will now meet St Manchan Gaels in the White Group Final.
