Clontibret Camogie News

August 25, 2015

This Sunday is D-day for our senior panel as they face Castleblayney in the final of the senior camogie championship. The stakes are high for Clontibret who are the current Bridie McMenamin Shield holders (Ulster) as well as county champions. But that will serve to motivate them and galvanise them in their determination to succeed. With only a few niggly injuries, the selectors expect to have a full panel to pick from and indeed competition for starting positions has been keen.
We urge everyone to get behind the team on Sunday. The time for the final is 3.00pm, although currently the venue has yet to be confirmed due to a number of senior championship football matches awaiting venue confirmation, at the time of writing. However this will be notified by email and text as soon as possible.
Panel: Ríoghnach Duffy, Sioneen Morgan, Aisling Greenan, Sorcha McDonald, Nicola Morgan (Capt), Aisling McElvaney, Michelle Morgan, Marie Greenan, Eleanor McQuaid, Shauna Finnegan, Chloe McGuigan, Shauna McKeever, Éimear McKenna, Sinead Mohan, Cliona McDonald, Hannah McSkeane, Donna Moen, Niamh Kieran, Ailbhe Boyle, Orlaith Boyle, Emily Madden, Cara Morgan, Nicole McNally, Aideen Greene, Victoria Kavanagh and Tara McElvaney.
Clontibret abú!!
A number of our U-14 players participated in the Ulster U-14 Blitz on Saturday last in Truagh, where teams from Donegal, Cavan, Armagh and Tyrone were based for the day. Monaghan suffered a heavy defeat to Donegal in the opening match, but then overcame Tyrone in their second engagement. As there were only 3 teams in each section, and Donegal also defeated Tyrone, this resulted in a Monaghan/Donegal sectional final. Again, Donegal took the spoils, but Monaghan gave a much better account of themselves second time round. In fact the Monaghan girls began to display much improved teamwork and skill as the day wore on. Well done to the Clontibret representatives:
Katie Carragher, Cliodhna Moran, Jennifer Duffy, Kirsty Morgan-O Reilly, Émer McGlone, Chloe Markey, Ria McCann, Siobhan Kelly, Ellanna Fitzpatrick, Siné Markey and Christina Reneghan
While training times will be notified to parents in the coming days, the next significant outing for the county U-14 panel will be Saturday September 12, when they will travel to Dublin to participate in the National U-14 Blitz. On the following day they will participate in the half-time parade at the All-Ireland camogie finals, in Croke Park.
Mention of the All-Ireland camogie finals reminds me that names of those wishing to travel (apart from those on the County U-14 panel) should be notified to Ned, Ailbhe or myself on or before next Saturday so that group tickets can be purchased. It is expected that the cost for the day will be €15 per child, which will include their travel and admission to Croke Park. Given that a number of adults will be involved with the U-14 county team, offers of help from parents of the younger club members will be gratefully accepted. Parents interested in travelling on Sept 13 and helping chaperone our young camógs should indicate this by next Saturday. Details regarding transport, departure times etc will be made available in due course.
On Saturday, Aug 29, our U-12 players are in action in a Monaghan Blitz in Inniskeen. This commences at 11.00 sharp so parents would be advised to have their daughters in Inniskeen by 10.30. A text will be sent regarding same later in the week.
Congratulations to our senior players who defeated Inniskeen in Clontibret, in the Monaghan Camogie League, on Wednesday last. Congratulations also to O Neill Shamrocks who were crowned Junior Champions on Sunday last. And the final 'Congratulations' this week go to Sioneen Morgan on her excellent GCSE results!
