Rockcorry GAA Club Notes

December 16, 2014

Canon Gerard Ferguson R.I.P.

On behalf of everyone at the Rockcorry GAA club and the local community I would like to offer our deepest and heartfelt sympathies to family, relatives and friends of the late Canon Gerard Ferguson who passed away to his eternal reward last week. Canon Ferguson was our parish priest for many years and during his time he touched the lives of so many people and we are grateful for the many gifts that he brought to our community. I know he was held in high esteem and loved not only in our small village but in many parishes through-out the diocese. He was an extraordinary man, generous, humble and always ready to listen and we are extremely grateful for his many years of preaching the word of God in our parish. I will forever remember him as a good friend and may his gentle soul, his cheerful spirit, rest in eternal glory. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam dilis.

Committee Positions Vacant
The management committee is open to all who wish to sit on the committee or indeed any of our sub-committees. New faces, new opinions, new ideas are the lifeblood of any club and with your input the possibilities of today can be achieved tomorrow. At our annual general meeting the positions of Assistant Secretary, Cultural Officer were not filled. We are now looking to co-opt members to fill these important roles. If any club member is interested in taking up any of these roles or perhaps sitting on the management committee please get in touch. The bottom line folks, and its quit simple, the future of the club is in our own hands. Everything that we do today or indeed everything that we don't do will have a serious impact on the performance of the club in the future. It's you club, get involved.

Annual Yearbook 2014 - 'Our Club…Our Passion'
This year's annual yearbook entitled "Our Club…Our Passion" was officially launched at our annual general meeting and is now available to download on our official website www.rockcorrygaa.ie. The format follows previous editions and includes plenty of team photographs, loads of actions shots from the games and a lot more stuff from various other events held during 2014. If you would like a hard copy then please get in touch with myself. Due to the economies of scale and the number of units ordered the average cost of producing the book will reduce. It is quite expensive to print so I won't make any promises but I will do my best to try and get some yearbook's printed.

Coaching Workshops
The Monaghan Games & Coaching Development committee in conjunction with the Ulster GAA have released dates a number of workshops that will take place during January. A workshop entitled 'Fitness Testing & Developing a Programme' is scheduled for Tuesday 6th January at Cloghan at 7.30pm and finally 'Planning the Pre-Season' will take place on Tuesday 13th January in Cloghan at 7.30pm. Please visit our www.rockcorrygaa.ie or our Facebook page for a brief description of the workshops and names of the workshop tutors. For further information you can contact Patrick McCarron at 087-2163580 or [email protected].

Rockcorry Bowls Tournament
The past week St. Mary's Hall was buzzing and a hive of activity with the local Bowls club running their pairs competitive tournament. More than 200 players from across the county took part including players who travelled from Ulster and Leinster. It was a 'bowl-tastic' occasion with some fabulous matches. The competition will draw to a fascinating close on Wednesday night (17th December) when the very best bowlers will assemble to compete for the title and claim the Bosco Carroll Memorial Cup. It promises to be another electrifying night and the action starts at 7.30pm.

The annual subscription for adults is €20 with all juveniles under the age of 18 costing €5 and any student that can provide a valid student card the membership fee is €5.
