Seamus McEnaney has confirmed that the injury sustained by Darren Hughes in Ballybofey on Sunday is not serious.

Having missed all three of Monaghan’s championship games last summer due to a broken ankle, Hughes returned to intercounty action for the Farney County’s McKenna Cup victory over Derry but hobbled off against Donegal last weekend, having ran into trouble just seven minutes after being introduced from the bench.

Monaghan supporters collectively held their breaths as the talismanic Scotstown clubman departed the fray but ‘Banty’ told The Irish News that he has only suffered a minor tweak:

“Ah, it's not very worrying, he tweaked his groin at the start of the second half, it was precautionary that we took him off.”

The manager also revealed that the substitution of Jack McCarron (hamstring) was precautionary.
