Emyvale club notes

August 21, 2019

U17’s A week to remember for this team as they were crowned Division 1 league Champions after a wait of over 70 years. This U-17 team defied all odds last week by overcoming a strong Donaghmoyne team away in the semi-final to reach the final on Tuesday last against Monaghan Harps. Emyvale settled into the final well with Ben Ryan opening the scoring through his magnificent left boot. Monaghan Harps kept within touching distance and went ahead in the 20minute through the accurate Eoghan Mc Ginnity. This would give them a slender lead of 2points as half time approached 0-7 to 0-5. Emyvale regrouped and came out in the 2nd half very strong, with points from Michael Hamill and Aidan Mc Kenna. They were dealt a big blow when midfielder Allister Stewart received a blackcard. This however seemed to galvanise this determined group of players and they took the lead in the 12 minute into the half from Ben Ryan. It was the last quarter where the team showed great character through tenacious defending to stop Monaghan Harps from scoring. With only a few minutes on the clock Monaghan Harps was awarded a penalty which only left 2 points between the sides. However up stepped substitute Jake Hughes who extended the lead to 3 points. They held on and were crowned Division 1 league champions on a final scoreline of 0-16 to 1-10. A great team performance and we are extremely proud of the team and management on their achievement so far and more to come from this great team. Seniors played Cremartin in the first round of the Championship on Sunday last in Scotstown. Both teams stepped up from Junior last year and there wasn’t much to separate both sides in opening quarter. A well worked move from a kick out resulting in David Mc Allister getting the opening goal. This gave Emyavle a 4point lead at halt time 1.6 to 5pts. They second half couldn’t have gotten off with David Mc Allister finding the net inside the opening minute for his second goal. Cremartin didn’t falter and cam back strong in the third quarter and they scored a goal with 5 minutes remaining to set up a nervous finish. At full time both sides were level but in added time Daniel Mc Mahon tagged on a point and then found the net under extreme pressure from the Cremartin backs to give Emyvale a 4 point win. Final score 3.10 to 1.12.
