Doohamlet club notes

January 16, 2019

As we enter 2019 and look forward to a new season let’s just reflect on our past year. 2018 was a wonderful year for our club on the playing field and over the past number of weeks our success has been recognised with various awards.

Huge Congrats to Mickey McEneaney who was honoured recently as Club Volunteer of the Year.  Mickey has dedicated his time coaching Doohamlet juvenile players of all ages and every current player has been coached at some time by Mickey.    On Sunday 29th December Doohamlet for the first time ever had three players representing Monaghan at Senior level. Colin Walshe, Jamie Walshe and Barry McGinn, all played in this McKenna cup fixture and was a proud day not just for our club but indeed for Mickey who would have had a major input in their formative years. Congrats Mickey an honour truly deserved.

James Casey, Jason McElroy, Conor Marray, Colin Walshe, Jamie Walshe and Barry McBennett were all selected on the 2018 Intermediate Championship team selected at the Monaghan County Convention.  Well done to all these players, each had an outstanding championship and congratulations on your well deserved honour.  Also congratulations to Jason McElroy who was awarded Intermediate Player of the Year. Jason had been magnificent all throughout the season often giving the man marking duties but always delivered eye catching performances. Jason will spend 2019 travelling and will be a huge loss to our Senior team but we wish him well on his travels and hope to see him back playing soon.

Seniors:  Manager Dessie McBennett has added a new training and fitness coach to his backroom team, Raymond Johnston from Newtownbutler will begin his new role in February and we wish him well

Dinner Dance:  Final preparations are almost complete as we all head to the Glencarn Hotel in Castleblayney on Saturday 26th January to celebrate a fantastic 2018.  Tickets are currently available from any committee member so come along and celebrate a wonderful year.  This is a night not to be missed.

Condolences: Doohamlet GFC wish to express their condolences to Family and Friends of Susan Lavelle who recently passed away and also to the Family and Friends of Owenie McBennett Dunfelimy who also passed away recently.
