Doohamlet club notes

September 19, 2018

Championship:  Doohamlet  2-12  Aughnamullen  0-12

Doohamlet and Aughnamullen met in Castleblayney on Saturday evening last with a quarter final place on offer to the winners.  Two neighbouring clubs that know each other well played out a tactical battle in the first half but Doohamlet had more threat in attack and Barry McBennett and Paul McArdle kept the scoreboard ticking over with an unerring accuracy from placed balls.  Doohamlet held a slight advantage at half time leading by 0-06 to 0-04.  Goals win matches and Doohamlet struck their first when Kevin McArdle after only being introduced palmed home after being set up by Jamie Walshe and a Barry McBennett free straight away now had Doohamlet leading by five.  Aughnamullen replied with points to reduce the arrears and had the deficit down to two points entering the final quarter.  Doohamlet now began to show their quality and Jamie Walshe again who was excellent throughout netted with a great finish to set Doohamlet on their way.  Further scores from Ciaran McManus, Paul McArdle, Barry McGinn and Barry McBennett saw Doohamlet home with a well-deserved six point victory.  Great display from Doohamlet with Gavin King, Colin Walshe, Jason McElroy and Conor Marray showing very well in defence and young players Sean Markey and Hugh McGinn adding to the experience of Niall Connolly and Paul McArdle in attack.  Doohamlet can now look forward to a quarter final clash with Corduff on Saturday evening next in Inniskeen.  Throwin at 6pm
