Another very good week for Doohamlet on the playing field with our Senior team back to winning ways, our Reserve team winning the Crawley Cup on Sunday evening last and Colin Walshe leading the Monaghan senior team into the inaugural Super 8 series.

 

Seniors:  First up was our Senior team who played Toome in the league on Friday evening last.  With two consecutive defeats Doohamlet were apprehensive going into this game against a highly motivated Toome side and with a number of players missing for different reasons, the home side suffered three huge blows losing Barry McBennett, James Casey and Niall Connolly all injured before halftime.  Going in at the break one point down 1-05 to 1-04 Doohamlet were up against it but huge credit to the players who put in a magnificent shift in the second half  Sub keeper Dermot Kelly             Gavin King, Martin Hughes and Ciaran McManus and young Eoin Markey were fantastic in defence, Jamie Walshe had arguably his best game at midfield and Kevin McArdle, Michael Marray and a superb display from John Duffy at 14 all helped Doohamlet record a memorable victory  1-13 to 1-10. 

Doohamlet GFC would like to wish John Gorman a speedy recovery after he suffered a nasty shoulder injury during the game.  Next up for our Seniors is an away fixture against Aughnamullen.

 

Reserves:  Hugh Congratulations to Manager Gavin King and his mentors on guiding Doohamlet Reserves and become Crawley Cup Champions on Sunday evening last.  Doohamlet had much more power, pace and the ability to take scores at vital stages and ran out worthy winners against a gallant Corduff side.  Ciaran Finnegan opened the scoring with a fantastic long range effort in the first minute and further scorers from John Duffy and Oisin O'Neill saw Doohamlet stretch their lead before the introduction of Cormac McKenna who replaced the injured Ciaran Finnegan.  Cormacs first touch was to finish a fine move to the net and would score his second goal shortly after to effectively kill the contest. Corduff tried hard in the second half but Doohamlet were much stronger all over the pitch and further scores from Hugh McGinn Oisin O'Neill Michael Marray and Shane McManus before Emmett McManus put a gloss on the final scoreline with a third goal to finish the game with a scoreline   Doohamlet 3-10  Corduff  1-06

It was then up to Doohamlet Captain Michael Marray to accept the Cup and in his own inimitable way thanked Management and players for their efforts in winning this Crawley Cup for a second time and he also acknowledge Blackhill for their excellent facilities as host for this final and the officials for their handling of the game.  Then back to Connollys for refreshments and beverages. Well Done:  To Colin Walshe who captained Monaghan through the qualifiers and with victory over Laois last weekend sees Monaghan into the super 8's.  Games against Kildare, Kerry and Galway await and we wish them well over the coming weeks and hope to see them make an All Ireland Semi-final.
