B FL Div 4: Opening round win for Ultans

May 01, 2018

Paidin Boggins St. Ultans

St Ultans 2-11 Cortown 0-7

St Ultans played their first B League game of the year on Saturday in Sean Newman Park securing both points against Cortown.

Cortown started the brighter and opened the scoring with a free that was quickly cancelled out by Kevin Rogers. Cortown responded with two points but Ultans went on to dominate the remainder of the half. A brace of points from distance from midfielder Barry Brady, another point for Kevin Rogers and 1-1 from the impressive Tadhg Ratty, the goal was a great finish after being slipped through by Ciaran Rogers after a strong run.

Cortown fought back with two early points but Thomas Fitzsimons hit back with a well struck point after combining well with Shane Mulroe. Cortown reduced the gap to a goal with another free but Ultans were winning a lot of ball and started to make it count. Kevin Rogers added his third point before Robbie Daly rose highest to fist a high ball into the Cortown net. An excellent double save from keeper Keith Hennessy  and some excellent defensive team work ensured there would be no comeback for Cortown. Further scores followed from Paidin Boggins, Ciaran Rogers, Kevin Rogers and a Tadhg Ratty free ensured Ultans ran out comfortable winners 2-11 to seven points.
