Rathmolyon U13's and mentors celebrate

Rathmolyon 5-6   Ballinakill (Laois) 2-4

Rathmolyon Under 13's created their own little piece of history by beating Ballinakill and claiming the clubs first Leinster title.

On a bright but cold day at 12 noon the whistle blew to start this final in Kilcormac, (Field of Dreams) Centre of Excellence, Co. Offaly.

Rathmolyon defeated Na Fianna (Meath) and Kilcock (Kildare) to top their group. The Meath club got the worst possible start when conceding an early goal.

Rathmolyon to their credit did not panic, tightened up things at the back with Freddie Christie, Arthur Doyle, Daithi Grehan, Martin Forde, Kosei Kirwan and Jack Murray showing some fantastic skill to keep Balinakill out.

Joey Christie scored some vital frees, while Nathan Fahy, Jake Conlon and Sean Howley all pitched in to keep the score board moving. At half time the scoreline was Rathmolyon 3 - 06 Ballinakill 1 - 02.

Ballinakill were never going to give up without a fight and started the second half like the first scoring a goal and a point. Tadhag Fahey led the way in midfield, hooking and blocking while making vital runs forward. Freddie Christie brought off some good saves and with his long puck outs Rathmolyon settled.

The winners eventually scored two goals thanks to Sean Howley in quick succession to seal the victory to the relief of their travelling fans.

Rathmolyon: F. Christie, J. Murray, A. Doyle, K. Kirwan, M. Forde, D. Grehan, C. Regan, T. Fahy, S. Howley, J, Christie, F. Maguire, N. Fahy, J. Conlon, R. Henderson, S. Brennan.
