Meath footballers who have 3 AI medals

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Anyone know here what Meath Footballers have won 3 (or more) All Ireland medals ?.
It is easy to remember the 2 players who played in 3 winning finals, Martin O'Connell in '87, '88 and '96; Colm Coyle in '87 (came on as a sub), '88 and '96.
I'm trying to think of players such as Brendan Reilly was defiantly a sub in '88 and played in '96 but I don't know if he was a sub in '87 and '99. While I know they were not on the team or used as a sub in any matches were Martin O'Connell/ Colm Coyle on the panel when Meath won in '99 ?.
Also is Martin O'Connell the only Meath player with more than 5 Leinster medals ?.

He has Senior from '96 and '99 but if you include Minor and U-21 then Graham Geraghty would have 4.

He won a Minor in '90 and U-21 in '93.

Good question!

I would go for Donal Keoghan but there is still time. :P

I think Cathal Sheridan is the only Meath player to have 4 All Ireland medals in different grades Minor ,U 21 , Junior and Senior.

Yes I would agree, but I think that PJ Gillic also has completed that feat.

PJ Gillic? Apart from not winning All-Irelands in minor, U-21 or Junior, he came close!!

He did however achieve the fairly rare feat of playing Minor, U-21, Junior and Senior in the same year (1986). If memory serves me right, he only played senior in the league though. I seem to remember someone saying at the time that he came very close to matching Dermot Earleys achievement of playing championship in all 4 grades in the same year.

PJ Gillick as I can remember played minor in 1985 and U 21, Junior and Senior championship in 1986.
It's great to win Leinster medals in the four grades , not many achieve this .

No he definitely played Junior in 85. He played senior in the league later that year (the league of course started before Christmas back then), and played senior championship in 86.
