So it's now 3 years in a row that we have received no All Star nominations. It is also very hard to see any of our players coming close to getting one next year. oldsam_newsam (Meath) - Posts: 638 - 06/10/2016 15:03:16 1923320 Link 0 |
Well graham Reilly already should have one from 10 in fairness. I think O'Sullivan would be nailed on if in another county. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 06/10/2016 21:16:13 1923512 Link 0 |
simple answer is no. O Sullivan wouldn't of started for either team last week and wouldn't make the Kerry team either... Graham should have got one in 2010 yes but that is a long time ago now. Without doubt it is easier to show your talent when you have other talented people around you but realistically we would find it hard to have one player on any of the top 3-4 teams. It does not matter how good a player performs if the county does not reach the last 8 he wont get a nomination. No point in talking about All stars for individual players until the Meath team reaches this level. subzero (Meath) - Posts: 69 - 07/10/2016 10:02:38 1923621 Link 1 |

But now that we have the right management team everything will be ok ? Thats what most posters on here for the last 6/7 years have neen saying. Lets not be realistic , let's live in fantasy. Once we win leinster in 2017 it will be All ireland in 2018 Analyst (Meath) - Posts: 1467 - 07/10/2016 17:09:05 1923856 Link 4 |
Are u for real regarding O'Sullivan? Please take off your green and gold tinted glasses and be realistic. You did see his performance versus Dublin?

Actually, Analyst, that is quite simply not true. I have been on here for the past 6-7 years, as I believe you may have been as well. It is completely untrue that "most posters" have been saying that with the right management in place, everything would be ok. Not only that, but I would be hard pressed to think of a single poster who has claimed that the right management team would solve all out problems. Maybe Royaldunne on one of his more optimistic days! If you would like to trawl back through threads and find some examples to prove me wrong, then go ahead. What a lot of posters, including myself, have said is that we have been underperforming with the players we have, and that with a good management in place, we should be able to raise out performances to a much higher standard than what we have been doing. I stand by that opinion. In my opinion, there is room for improvement in terms of player selection, fitness, strength, mental attitude, and tactics. If, and it is a big if, we can improve in all of these areas, then the performances, and consequently the results, should improve. Would it win us anything? who knows! - probably not. But it would be a good idea to try. But if it makes you feel better by trotting out the usual straw-man arguments about how all the supporters think that we are just a good manager away from winning an All-Ireland, then fire away. But the reality is that only the most deluded of Meath fans actually believe that. and you won't find many arguing that on here. anfearbeag (Meath) - Posts: 1134 - 07/10/2016 19:00:48 1923878 Link 3 |
We need to have faith in our new manager's ability to get the best out of all our players. I do. I'm absolutely buzzing for the New season to begin in earnest. GlasgowRoyal (Meath) - Posts: 293 - 07/10/2016 19:27:44 1923891 Link 0 |

Not sure what posts you have been reading, but few if any posters take that view. Most seem to be a BIT more optimistic but nobodys getting carried away.

Andy would be doing well if he can get some of the never say die attitude the hurlers had last year.. if they can get more dogged it will go a long way to closing out games.. threw way to many away last year in last 10 mins.. Even I on my most optimistic days didn't say we would win a all ire. That's just crazy. We need to walk before we can run. Now what I did say is that we have made that process all the more slower by continuing with a failed manager for longer than needed. I doubt and actually would be astonished if Andy came out after loosing to Westmeath for only the second time in 130 years and tried to put a positive spin on it by saying we played well in first half, or hailing going toe to toe with Tyrone cause they are actually a div 1 team even though they in div 2. Constantly telling the fans and players that they not good enough, and making every excuse under the sun for their own short comings . No one not even me is expecting anything other than a honest to god effort from players and management, if its good enough then great, if not then at least we bloody tried, something we have not done for 4 years. While its never easy to get beat if you can say well they were better team then that's all we can ask. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 08/10/2016 09:21:49 1923987 Link 0 |
