Friday night finals in Dunganny Two under 17 finals on pitches 1 and 2 and Reserve B League final on the astro pitch. So no grass pitches anywhere on a Friday night or is there something I'm missing? Blogger (Meath) - Posts: 2 - 30/09/2016 00:29:18 1920757 Link 0 |
Disgrace that D/Ash v Skyrne final is on an Astro pitch to be honest.Teams don't play or tend to train on astro.

football can be played on them pitches no problem overthehill72 (Meath) - Posts: 334 - 30/09/2016 09:14:33 1920787 Link 0 |
We shouldn't be playing anything other than friendlies and training matches in Dunganny and even then only in the summer because it's so cold and windy there. Wedgie (Meath) - Posts: 253 - 30/09/2016 11:20:27 1920826 Link 0 |
Strange decision alright but I have to say that the artificial pitch in Dunganny is excellent and will only have a positive impact on the standard of the game. GoalsWinGames (Meath) - Posts: 303 - 30/09/2016 11:46:57 1920838 Link 0 |
It's not possible to play every final in every grade in Páirc Tailteann, especially since it has no lights. CastleBravo (Meath) - Posts: 1648 - 30/09/2016 12:02:31 1920841 Link 3 |
Purely a money making exercise for the County Board getting 100% of the gate. Plenty of clubs with lights and pitches fit for the purpose and could do with the little revenue it would bring. Theheinoking (Meath) - Posts: 128 - 30/09/2016 13:30:47 1920872 Link 0 |
Just thinking after last night, being the only team in the League of Ireland with an artificial pitch has done Dundalk no harm! CastleBravo (Meath) - Posts: 1648 - 30/09/2016 14:41:32 1920900 Link 3 |
GoalsWinGames, What tablets are you on? The Astro in Dunganny is one of the worst I have ever seen & in fact would not pass any test under the minimum standards for "All Weather" surfaces! RoyalDiehard (Meath) - Posts: 48 - 30/09/2016 15:24:57 1920909 Link 0 |
Finals should not be played under lights as there are lot of daylight during the year. All we need is a bit of planning management. We are long out of the All-Ireland senior football and we still have not got to the playoff stage.

agreed but the majority of posters here complain about midweek games and with very other weekend being given to hurling this is the situation that will occur due too a few spectators not being able to make midweek games

And strangely the final with the best atmosphere in the last 10 years in the county was the 2009 Senior one that was played under lights between seneschalstown and Wolfe Tones. There's nothing wrong with playing finals under lights and nothing wrong with playing them on the main pitch in Dunganny. Just not on the Astro Turf pitch. jackhackett (Meath) - Posts: 773 - 30/09/2016 17:28:21 1920940 Link 0 |
How windy or exposed and open is Dunganny this year and would planting decent perimeter trees/hedging improve playing conditions much?

The playing surfaces in dunganny arent the best for a final in my own opinion and the 3g pitch from a spectatours veiwing is like trying to look through the mexican an us border. loyalroyal15 (Meath) - Posts: 56 - 30/09/2016 21:07:16 1920974 Link 0 |

They could have scheduled a round of games for today? Oh wait it's All Ireland final day, the biggest day in the sporting calendar for every football/Hurling fan regardless of the county they come from. No county board would schedule a round of club championship games for the day of an All Ireland Final to make sure GAA fans are afforded the opportunity to attend if they're lucky enough to get a ticket.
