The main championship is 15 a side. Th e A and B championships are 13 a side because those teams because would'nt have the numbers of the bigs teams.... obviously!

I'd agree Brownpat. Lads should be well able to play U-21 at 17. So you are picking from lads who are 17,18,19 and 20. All those clubs should be well able to muster up 20 lads over 4 different ages.
Having said that, there is an argument to be made for changing all football and hurling to 13 a side at every level. With increased fitness levels nowadays, and blanket defences, it would be good to give people more space on the ball.

I would agree 13 a side would be much more exciting.

Wouldn't reducing the opportunities for players results in lads leaving the game? Dropping 2 men off every single team in the country would cause a lot of frustration.

Most clubs will find it difficult to even round up 13 lads to play.

While I am sympathetic to the difficulties that small clubs face, if you can't round up 13 lads between the ages and 17 and 20, then you really have no business being in the competition. Swallow your pride and amalgamate with your neighbours. Then when you get past U-21 level and on to Junior A or B, you can go back to kicking lumps out of each other if you like.

It'd be 100% the right option to amalagmate clubs to give everyone a chance at playing at the highest level and it should be done at all levels ideally, not just u21. But stubborn club officials would never agree to that so it should be up to the county board to either force amalgamations or disqualify clubs who can't field a team. In my opinion playing 11 or 13 a side games benefits nobody and even then most lads in those games are players who haven't trained since minor level.
My point before was that dropping 2 men off every single team in the country wouldn't cause that much frustration because most clubs wouldn't have 2 players to drop.
