Meath v Dublin

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Now I might be silly, but I will always beleive that we can beat Dublin. Now to have a chance we will need the Dubs to have an off day and we will have to play to our potential.
We have the forward power to cause them problems, but we will have to be very ruthless and need everyone working hard no passengers.Look its a tall order, but even if we lose,I hope we see us give it a good lash and are more fine-tuned for this one and have a good second half.

Whatever we do in 2 weeks time it has to be different than 2012, 2013 and 2014, we failed on each of those occasions and it would be madness to go out without a new approach, whatever that may be. I know the odds are stacked against us and my belief that Meath can beat Dublin is at an all time low as I'm sure is the case with many other Meath fans but surely the players can't think that way.

I want to see the Meath lads going out there and playing like men possessed for 70mins, no dropping the heads or getting tired, just get stuck it and if we're going down, go down swinging.

If the players have the belief then we can topple the dubs. I believe we can take them.

Look to the minors and and hurlers for inspiration.

No point in stating the obvious. We know what we're up against.

Dublin bring a mix of quality attacking play along with ferocious intensity from the most athletic and conditioned football players in the game today. They have very few flaws which makes the task at hand almost impossible so from a fans perspective you're hoping that we can at least keep it competitive for as long as possible.

I think Meath are capable of playing good football especially in Croke Park and we have a couple of players that might cause problems but defensively we're way too suspect. There are few teams with a defence that can cope against Dublin so there's no shame in that.

They will look to bury us straight from the throw in like they did with Laois. Early goals to psychologically dismantle the opposition and with that end the game as a contest. We need to be alert to that and be very well organised.

We've got nothing to lose here so I'm hoping that Meath go out and leave absolutely everything out on the field in 2 weeks. As long as they show passion and fight until the final whistle and not alow themselves to be rolled over I'll be happy. As much as I hate losing to Dublin it's 10 times worse when we don't even go down fighting. I want to see some bite from this Meath team.

Its all you can ask,if we are not good enough fair enough. But lets give it our best shot.Really hope Tobin makes it for this one though. We are weak at the back but also missing defenders.

Htaem Yes absolutely agree team have to have the belief they can win. They can win of course, but there are some long standing problems...Fitness [physically] we consistently have the same players who cannot complete the match duration because of lack of fitness. Why? .Team is still mentally fragile why ? Has this been addressed over the winter?
For the Dublin match we will have to have full forward line functioning for full match. I expect Newman will improve his strike rate at free taking. I hope to see our forwards such as Wallace consistently go at the Dublin defence at speed with total support as required.
This is a really good Dublin outfit ,and fully deserve the label of the best around at present. I will be happy if every Meath player gives it everything..just like the old days. That will be a good result for me. I will take whatever the scoreboard says after that. No surrender ...of course we can win, its still 15 against 15 or more correctly 20 against 20. The very best of luck lads ... Its a hell of a challenge, and that is the appetising bit that breaths some optimism

Lads I like to judge players by how they play in Croker, and around this time last year Bryan McMahon tore apart the Westmeath defense scoring 2-2, somehow we lost I know, but McMahon HAS to start.. probably instead of mcdonagh

If fit I think it makes sense to bring in McEntee for McDonagh, Dublin look to be improving, so should win pulling up, so its up to the lads to shake up the form book, this game is all about performance if we get beaten by better team so be it as long as they give it everything. Louth did not really test our defence yesterday so questions still unanswered. Hopefully D Tobin is ok

Taken from todays Indo
O'Dowd doesn't think Meath will have injured defenders Conor McGill, James McEntee or Brian Power back in two weeks' time.

Of course it will work :)

Have you 3 half forwards in Biggy,McEntee,O'Sullivan, have Wallace with a bit of a free role(to a degree) between the lines working off Newman and Tormey.I have a feeling McEntee will be back..

One flaw that Dublin do have which has already been pointed out is that their full back line lack height. High balls into a target man might work but I'm not convinced we have a ball winner of the calibre required i.e Aidan O'shea, Michael Murphy etc.

Might be worth a shot with Tormey and Newman.
