Entry to club championship games jumps to €8

(Oldest Posts First)

I'm outraged by this, and hereby begin the "8 isn't great" campaign...

I would encourage all paying punters to walk out of opening round championship matches after 8 minutes to show the Fat Cats in Páirc Tailteann that this kind of greed won't stand!

;-)

Interesting move to increase it from €5 to €8.
I remember at the end of 2014 it was remarked at a county board meeting that the €5 gate fee was the main driver for the large increase in attendances at club championship games and thus increased revenue.
The law of diminishing returns could well come into play here.
Unfortunately the fans who follow their club through thick and thin in all weather conditions will end up paying it and many others just won't go.
You'd expect a double header at each venue for those prices but that won't happen.

Yes, all joking aside, what you said above it bang on RG. €5 seemed to be the sweet spot for entry & maximising the crowd. Getting out of the dark ages on the commercial front might be a better way to increase revenue.

I agree with you Barney and many folk who are interested in football go to many matches over a week period and not just their own club matches. 5 euros is sufficient when you consider families following their teams- greed is the name of the game in Irish society and indeed rife with the GAA who once had nobody getting paid.

5 euros was a nice price, but 8 euro is a bit much especially if you want to go to a few games..

Totally agree, living in another era, refuse to let another sponsor on the back of the jersey but prefer to bleed another few euro out of the long suffering punters!
€50k for 2016 from Tayto Park is a shocking amount considering the market exposure and commercial size of the county

I presume this is for Senior Games not the Lower grades. If so it goes back to pre Brendan Dempsey times when it was 8 for SFC 7 for IFC and 6 for Junior

Meath football is in serious trouble both on and off the pitch, it is so worrying its no longer a joke anymore. The blame lies firmly at the door of the county board. Our county teams are faltering, our county board and totally unprofessional and stumble from one mess to another, we have basically no main sponsor, the club structures are being tampered with and our Senior champions can't win a game outside of the county, and our main county grounds is falling apart and has had the lights taken away. Unfortunately all of the above is true.
