County Convention

(Oldest Posts First)

Any opinions on the New(ish) board last night - God you have to give it to Paddy Kelly he just doesn't go away. Pity also that County Chairman did not mention (or maybe he did not quoted on the Hoganstand) a bit about hurling. He commented on aim of Senior Football for 2015 but not on hurling for a dual person a slight omission.

Officers elected at Convention

Good to see Jason Plunket elected last night. We badly need new blood in there. Is there an issue between Noel Dempsey and Cummins.

Don't think there is an issue between Dempsey & Cummins,

Sport fan. The chairman did speak about hurling in his report last night, full report not on hoganstand. He also congratulated the 2 hurlers who got awards this year. His report was very precise and detailed and covered all aspects of his job as chairman. Well done Conor Tormey

Thanks Mash58 as I said only read the caption on hoganstand this morning. Good to hear he did mention hurling would have been surprised if he had not. Onwards and Upwards with GAA in the County for 2015 which ever it is Football/Hurling or even Camogie. Up the Royal

I've only read what Conor Tormey had to say here on HS but I thought it was pretty routine stuff, he talked up Dunganny, so let's hope that pain in our side is cleared pretty soon and hopefully it does actually benefit our county teams. He did over praise our senior football team though, but I suppose it's better for the chairman to say nice things about them than to go on a scathing attack even though we all know that our team hasn't done anything worth talking about in quite a while.

Also I hope Pairc Tailteann was mentioned because I didn't see any mention of it in the article on HS or maybe I missed it?

Ziggy indeed I'm sure he wants Meath back at top as much as anyone of us. But wanting something is only a very small amount of what's needed, you must have the knowhow. NowiI'm not questioning the man in the slightest. But I think if he was that impressed with Meath this year. Then we are in trouble, now its probably more a case of what Htaem said and he just had to talk up the year, let's hope next year his address will actually be a very positive one too backed up by a actual good year.

Well that's it royaldunne, I think all of us in Meath want to see our team return to winning top honours, I hope Conor Tormey is not unique in that regard at county board level. I'll hold off any heavy judgement of the man, I was a little disappointed with the county board at times this year but it's still too early to really have a go at them, hopefully Tormey can get things back on track within the county and hopefully he'll show a willingness to progress.

Dempsey and Tormey deserve great credit for the turn around. Until the new faces took over 2 years ago we were crying out for it every year and these two men taking the reigns along with many others working hard behind the scenes have turned our finances around.

Remember the 180k loss the year before the old heads were moved on? And then the 100k extra debt discovered that wasn't even on the books? It's no wonder that the GAA and Leinster Couccil didn't want to invest in Meath GAA. Within two years they've turned that into a 180k surplus and I'm sure will only keep going up. If we got back to Div that would be a massive financial boost.

The ticketing system for county games and price reduction for club matches has worked wonders for football and hurling. The GAA is once again giving us money as seen with the recent 700k grant when combined. Heading in the right direction but lots more to do.

We need to improve the under age structures be it coaching, elite player development or looking after the top under age players by pushing them towards universities in Dublin and assisting them with gaining football scholarships. Some Universities can provide these lads with top class player development and likely reduce the temptation of drinking your talents away in college.

Anyway here's too the future. Dunganny, then PT and maybe someday we will get equal treatment to the Dubs and have the GAA funding full time coaches around the county. One can dream.

The take on Fixtures seems to be really pushing on I heard Hurling up over 100% with football up 35% also and underage up 140%. With them kind of increases you have to wonder what was going on before. Fair play to the Fixures with all games finished well on time other than the Finals with Kiltale and Ballinlough who had other competitions to play. Meath U21 Football was Finished the Night the Louth Competitions started............

I have said it before, the current county board will not get everything right, but in the main they are trying hard to fix the major messes of the last regime,I am sure most people can see that.
