Great news. 20 years playing teams away or in grounds much closer to the other county is too long. Finally we get our just reward. As a result the attendance at this match will be much higher than it was when we traveled to Aughrim 2 years ago. I know it's hard to get excited for Leinster anymore but this is the best thing that could have happened in that respect. Now roll on the league!

Agreed,by the way many county grounds are not much better than PT

well said RoyalPainter. Say what you like about PT but it holds a lot more than many grounds around the country. It would hold double Aughrim at least and a lot more than Dr. Cullen park. So if those grounds are fit to hold a Leinster match a PT that despite it's H&S reduction still holds more than O'Connor park is definitely fit for a match. If we get a crowd of around 12-15k at this it just shows you the gate money Leinster are losing out on not giving Meath a home game at least once every 2 years.

we wouldn't even get 12k going to a Leinster semi in croker so please god the numbers turn out and highlight how a renovated Navan is better than an overused croke park.

Good to see we've finally landed a home game in Leinster but as for the capacity I thought H&S restricted PT to 10k, is that right or wrong?

Ps, don't relent and the state of PT just because we have a home game, it's still a kip that needs urgent redevelopment.

Can anyone tell us the difference between the grass banks behind the goals in PT and Tralee which held their recent county final, and plenty of national league games.Plenty of fans were viewing the match from there without hassle or incident. I don't understand the issue in PT when we have barriers for patrons on them. I believe the issue should be revisited by the cb because it can cope with 18/20 thousand people easily. Everyone who was in for the louth match in particular back the years will recall the atmosphere.I believe we should take on the HSA again and get info as to why they are not available, and if there is an issue that can be resolved in time for the leagues and championship get it sorted. At the moment it looks terrible to see the barriers closing the place off.
And while were at it maybe they can organise a ticket machine for the entrance from the o mahonys grounds. Ridiculous that the county final was delayed 15 mins to allow 5/6 thousand people attend our showpiece match of the year. Will it be the same come national league and championship games. It's November now come on lads lets get the ball rolling in time.

All I know is that the ground will be holding more than 10k come championship next year. Probably will be 15k.

Lads, certain parts of PT may be run down and need redevelopment, but I wouldn't call the whole place a kip. I got into the habit of always watching games from the terrace over the years and in all weather conditions. Decided to sit in the stand for this year's league matches and many club matches in the latter stages of the championship. Now, we'd all like a new stand or even comfy seats in the present one, but a different viewing point can give one a fresh perspective of the place. Good matches and weather conditions help too. Any match at PT, including those under lights with a decent crowd and atmosphere is for me far more appealing than going to a third full Croke Park (Travelling to Tullamore is even more appealing than that). PT holds many fond memories and will always be home (sweet home).

And now a Leinster Senior Club Final to host as well, very positive to be getting these matches, I sense Navan is being sold strongly by our County Board hopefully funding and redevelopment is also on the agenda of Leinster Council.....

Redevelopment on P./T can wait. Dunganny is priority as all our county teams in football and hurling from u-13 to adult need a proper base for training and Dunganny development will cater for that. Yes P/T is in terrible need of upgrading but all in due time after Dumganny. P/T is only used for some club football/hurling games throughout the year which caters for a few hundred patrons along with maybe 4 county finals and 3/4 home league football games with Approx 3/4 thousand attending each. So realistically we can survive for another 2/3 yrs with P/T in its current state before redevelopment of P/T takes place after Dumganny is up and running.

Pt should have been done before the white elephant vanity project at dunganny.

yeah NOM could have been in the final but it wouldn't have been played in Navan then and they'd likely get a good hiding off the Vins. From a Meath point of view the players are better off getting a break for the years end.

Explain how is dunganny either a white elephant or a vanity project, and who's vanity project would it be??

Is there anything to be said for a stadium sponsor to help boost funds for the redevelopment of PT because I'm not fully convinced there'll be much work done on PT after Dunganny is finished, certainly not for a few years anyway and we really could use the extra funds if anyone was interested.

htaem - something similar to Kingspan Breffni Park in Cavan? apart from soccer stadiums that's the only one I can think of with sponsors name.... did they pay for its development???

it is potentially a great idea. (although 'Tayto Park' might cause some confusion)

Ye it's just a thought, hard to know if any sponsor is even interested or if they'd be willing to cough up a nice sum of money to make the deal worth while but it is certainly something worth looking into, no harm in trying.

There's also Elvery's MacHale Park and previously the Morgan Athletic Grounds. All these companies are the county's main sponsors though, so its probably Tayto or nothing.

Having considered it before, I doubt Tayto would want a second "Tayto Park" or "Tayto Páírc Tailteann" out there. It would confuse people and weaken their brand power, since they'd want the amusement park to be the only thing to come to mind when people think of Tayto and Parks.

I see this utter balderdash about building s new stadium near the M50 is rearing its head again, I don't know what the GAA are thinking here, why deprive a provincial venue like Navan or Portlaoise, that have the scope to develop into 35'000 + stadiums, of necessary development over a new unnecessary stadium somewhere along the M50 which of course as the GAA President says in closing "could service Dublin too". The only reason they are even considering building this stadium is because of Dublin, so if they don't play in Croker they will play in a 40'000 brand new stadium just out the road which will probably have a Luas line running straight in its front door, I really despair at times......
