My issue with the Meath team.

(Oldest Posts First)

Why are none of the players allowed play with their clubs apart from championship matches?

This annoys me for a few reasons.

1: Some of these clubs are losing out on the chance to win their leagues when their top players are away. They shouldn't be penalized for producing top players. They are not used to playing with them during their championship matches and that's not fair.

2: I honestly think it would be beneficial to Meath if their players were playing club football on a regular basis. We don't look sharp and some of the shooting when we play inter county championship is to be questioned. If they were at least playing regularly with their clubs they might remember how to kick the ball over the bar.

3: The current Leinster championship is a joke and the last thing we need is our club standard suffering for it. Let the players play with their clubs up to 2 weeks before a championship match and if we make it to the AI quarter final then throw a blanket over them.

Thoughts?

I agree with Jack. The Leinster championship has become a joke, 9 out of the last 10 won by Dublin. Also, it's not as if Meath players are being kept away from injuries in their training with Meath. As Jack says it's the clubs that nurture these players and they lose out on them and only being held back for the championships.

In fairness the Meath lads are allowed play the earlier rounds of the League. You wouldn't get that in other counties Jack.

I don't think it's practical to have players off with their clubs for league games. There's a reason this doesn't go on in other counties.

One change that could be made is trimming the numbers per division down in the League. After 8 or 9 rounds, a lot of teams have nothing to play for and aren't even interested.

The meath players I know did NOT play any league matches this year. Not even 1. It's a disgrace and they should be playing the vast majority of them. Do you think we still wouldn't have beat carlow or kildare if they were playing with their clubs throughout the league?

I'm sick of the club scene suffering just so we can make a leinster final and move to dublin. They should be allowed with the clubs and only banned from playing after we reach a provincial final or reachthe last round of the qualifiers.

The funny thing is this is going to cost the county in the long run as it's resulting in a decline in clun standard.

And ziggy this current domination will make that look like nothing. Expect them to have won 18 out of 20 Liensters by 2024. Meaths tradition and support generated from the 80's and 90's will be eradicated. Don't stand by and let that happen. Demand change and change will come. Thank god for the club scene or I would o longer be a big GAA fan.
