Meath V Armagh - August 2nd

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Time to move on,

Meath have Armagh in two weeks in a TBC venue.

I really cannot see Meath winning this for a number of reasons

In the last few seasons it has been a stumbling block for Meath after defeat in the Leinster final
The record we have against Northern/Ulster teams weighs enormously against Meath. Stats and Facts dont lie
Armagh have had a good run of games taking Monaghan to a replay, beating Tyrone and Roscommon. So morale is high and they have had plenty of game time.
Meath heads will be down and although players and management will be aware that they must turn itnaround it around, I believe we have just gotncaught outnhere too many times to get a result

Meath will not be as bad as they were against that Dublin team but I think they wont be able to turn it around

Well I'll give a team but if they not played in right position
then we might as well not turn up.
1 p O'Rourke (very poor in Leinster final will put that down to a off day)
2 keoghan ( what's the point in having one of the best . rner backs in country if not playing him there?)
3 k Reilly (best on display v dubs but the silly frees would damage us v armagh)
4 young ( yeah he's light but with Curran gone we have to play him)
5 Kenny (yeah age is against him but he will be vital for first half , must start)
6 Menton (either play him at six or drop him)
7 burke ( once he is eligible again )
8 meade ( no brainer imo)
9 s orurke ( yes he is not a midfielder but until gillespie returns we have no choice)
10 tobin ( can drop back)
11 tormey (best player v dubs)
12 g reilly / carroll ( hard to know which one to play this is biggys best position so like menton either play him here or drop him , also needs to uo fitness levels , carroll i feel might do more as a sub
13 mcmahon ( bad day yesterday but one bad game etc , worth a try )
14 bray (needs more support)
15 newman ( again can imorove )

Any idea where and when this game is on?

Conflicting reports on the main page on whether it's the 2nd or 3rd and where? Double header in croker or stand alone in.Breffni Newry or clones maybe?

Then make sure to use Kenny from 40 mins on and mcdonagh and David bray. Flanagan for whichever of the lads in the middle tire first.

Not to far off my team.McMahon should be used in the E.Wallace role, working off whichever two are at full forward. As I said many times,we need to play Keoghan and Menton in their proper positions. If I was Menton,I would be very frustrated..

If the game is played in Croke park it increases our chances of winning. That said we struggle badly against Ulster teams and armgagh have got the wind at their backs. Hard to be confident after yesterday but if we can regroup and steady the ship we have a chance

Will be coming up against the blanket defence, so need players who can score from out the field, should start the two Brays, Newman at midfield is an interesting choice, but maybe not for this game. Hope its in Croker, don't fancy playing in Ulster venue. Hyde Park an option

Armagh were relegated to div3 this year, I know that beat us this year put I dont think we should be afraid of them. If anything its
an opportunity for the team to regain some pride

If the in is in croker I would see it as an advantage to meath. I reckon we could exploit the space a good deal and punish armagh.

Despite how sluggish we looked yesterday I believe we would be better equipped than armagh for a running duel in croker and exploit the open spaces.

If not in croker then I reckon One of clones breffni or Newry. Can't see why Hyde park would come into it, out of the way for both counties.

I say it could be a double header in croke park. However the games next week are a double header in o connor park.. which could mean a double header in breffni perhaps?
Croker looks likely though

I reckon M. Burke could be in trouble with this biting incident he is clearly shown to strike O Gara several times..

Is Curran injured?

The game will have to be a shoot out with players ablento kick their own scores. Maybe a call up for D. Bray. And drop carroll back to wing back.

Your buying too much of the dublin nonsense on the main page about burky. If I was bitten I'd be throwing a couple of raps at the lads head too. If they find ogara innocent then nothing will be done about Burke.

Hard to disagree with what's been said earlier. We need to tweak the team with an eye for next year but also give this game our best shot. Armagh will be physical and I think McMahon and Joey Wallace are players for the future but not this one.

We really need to play players in their best positions. Graham Reilly is worth a start in what is probably his best position. Both D. Bray and P. Gilsenan should get a start in their best positions, if they are not up to it then I don't see a future for them on the panel going forward.

Guys check out the incident footage on the gaelic website.. Burke is in real trouble.. he makes several swipes and O Gara clear cut as can be..you cant confirm a bite on Burke (yes he gets bitten its obvious by his and reaction)

However he is setting himself up for a ban too so I just wouldnt go having him on the teams.
