Jeez Lads I thought that ye would be all over the League fixtures released today, already going through them in forensic detail, predicting which games might be vital for promotion etc.
Meath have four away and three home games beginning with an away game v Roscommon on Saturday January 27th and finish up with a home game against Down on Sunday March 25th. The Battle of the Boyne takes place on St Patrick's day with Meath away to Louth.

Meath will beat Clare,Down,Louth,Cork and get beaten by Roscommon,Cavan and Tipp. That will give Meath a total of 8 points which will comfortably keep you up but won't be enough points for promotion.

Four away games was expected this year, Roscommon and Cavan away are tough games no doubt. Slow starts have cost us in the past and one would think at least 10 points would be needed for promotion, we need to start well and maintain collecting points. If we win our three homes games, one of which is against a main promotion rival in Cork, and win two on the road including a win against either Cavan or Roscommon, we should be in with a shout but predicting Meath in the league has often been a dangerous pastime so lets just look forward to it all starting again.

It's the weakest D2 in years. The only Ulster team we have away is Cavan, who aren't great. Andy had repeatedly said promotion is the goal for next year so I would expect us to be the fittest team in the early going. If teams like Roscommon and Tipp have designs on going far in the Championship they'll be focusing their attention on peaking in July/August. No excuses D1 in 2019!

Rossies decent team, tipp lot great footballers on there team play great brand football too.clare defo making gains each year. If cork got there act together watch out.our neighbours have tried and tested manager he bring great experience and know how to them.lots very good teams there if anything looking at us last year we have to b worried.
Hopefully playing these games will improve us cause we need all the game time and exposure to high level to make the panel whoever they are to get better.management have tough job to do so hope they have plan in place for next year and beyond. Let them at it and no agendas.

It looks like a wide open division next year. This is realistically our level at the minute- we are of similar standard to Cavan, tipperary etc. I guess Roscommon would be favourites to win the division but there will not be much between any of the sides. Any of the teams could beat any other on a given day. 5 wins or even 4 and a draw could probably be enough for promotion, and I could see a situation where everything is to play for on the final day. As has been said before, the first 3 games are essential- get 2 wins out of 3 and we are in a position to push for promotion. 1 out of 3 and we are looking over our shoulders.
I wouldn't get too hung up on the consistency or otherwise of the team at this stage. A few lads who were breaking into the panel last year (conlan, o'reilly) could step up. You could see 1 or 2 more of last years u-21s brought in. Others could be back from injury or travel. Until the o'byrne Cup is done, it is hard to know what we are looking at. In addition, one would like to hope that another winters training under McEntee could bring more consistency.
I wouldn't call it a disaster if we don't get promoted, but promotion would be a big step forward in the teams development.

It could just be me, but it seems every year since we went up in 2013 has been said to be "the easiest division 2 in years". Is it getting easier every year or what?

It's no easier or harder than last year. I think 15 was the big miss. But that's all behind us. Of course Andy is targeting promotion, which is refreshingly positive.
Do I think in my heart we will get promoted? And will I be putting money on it ? Absolutely yes.
But then I've done that every year for the last number.
Standing back from my royal slanted view. You would have to say that every team is thinking they can get promoted. Down cork provincial finalists, Roscommon provincial winners , tipp Clare on a crest of a wave, Louth always fancy playing Meath , Cavan have designs too. No easy games but we have the right man in charge. Few changes needed.
Long story short, if it's in our own hands on last day v Down I'll be a happy man.
