Meath - Qualifiers

Replying To Tweety:  "Really don't like being negative but after seeing them in both Parnell Park and Tullamore, I think Sligo will beat us! Whilst I'm certain there are better players in the county, the current panel has way too many passengers and will struggle to get a win over an underestimated Sligo team. They have decent forwards whom will look to benefit from the severe confidence drain after the Kildare game."
get a grip

Right its Saturday week in Navan, time to forget about the Kildare game, We are better than that display - how much will be seen against Sligo. I do believe if we can get our head right we can beat Sligo and then I wouldn't fear Mayo, Derry, Donegal or anyone else we could get in the next round. I believe that a lot of the problems with this and a number of previous Meath teams is in the players heads. Like when we were winning All Irelands those teams believed in their heads that they could always win, I think the current group have it in their head that when things dont go their way that they are already beaten and the heads go down. I thought the Cork league game changed that there was also glimpses of self belief against Louth. We know there are currently no better players in the county than whats in Andy's panel so it up to him now to pick the right mix and get ALL the players head space right. We have talent, we have good football intelligence, I thought we had fitness (until Saturday), we just need belief. Yes I would love to see two better center field players and an additional target man for the forwards, but they ain't available within the county.

If that is the best pick in Meath then I think we are in trouble. Newman better than wots on show there mattimoe better than most as well.tom reilly deserves chance leave o coileain in from start.Kildare exposed what most knew goin in to that game, ball winners, guts no holding back type players needed.mcentee has to have seen this will he react that's up to him

Lads, we're there a few high standard intercounty games between the kildare game and today?

There seems to be a consensus that some players who were being considered on here, are now players that we can't go out without.

Newman is a good club footballer but has yet to show consistency at County level. He's had a very hit a miss last cuple of years, and if you look back over the teams being picked on here it was widely accepted that he isn't making the cut. Yet since we loss on Saturday night, some people think we can't go out against Sligo without him. Or others.

We do this all the time in this county. If the team plays bad, we seem to think it improves the ability of the lads who didn't play. Some joker even called for big Joe back at full forward.
Calm down lads and have patience with what's there.

And btw, mattimoe was dropped from the panel.

When was Mattimoe dropped? He was on the bench for the Louth game a few weeks ago!

Well Reco from going to see my own club play and talking to friends involved in neighboring clubs we cant think of anyone within the county that isn't either on the panel or at the very least been given a trial who wasn't that would be an addition to the current team. The county board did nothing to help develop underage teams and players for the last 20 years and the defeats we are seeing at inter county level now are as a direct result of this inaction. It isn't the fault of either the management or the players. Even worse it is going to take some time to fix this problem.

He was listed as no 26 on the programme but was replaced by Mickey Newman who wore that shirt.

OK fair enough co board have lot to answer for but just take this scenario you have so many from the one club in the panel.now there prob marking each other in the a v b games is this promoting competition I don't think so.my point being there being made look good by false scenarios in training not the same level of intensity as championship games.everyone else is fighting harder and prob disillusioned with it.not blaming these lads but human nature been what it is it understandable. One example last year I went see ashbourne play summer hill 2 players from summer hill snuffed out Menton and tormey looked strong.Andy needs to delve more now in my book.

What a ridiculous post. I am sure Andy does not put players from the same club playing on each other at training .The whole theme of the post is anti-Dublin border clubs Ratoath, Dunboyne and Ashbourne. Tell us who are those 2 great players from Summerhill that Andy is missing out on !

It's amazing how good players become All Star supermen simply by not playing! 2 or 3 years ago Jack Guiney was dropped from the Wexford team for a "discipline issue" before they played Kilkenny. Kilkenny proceeded to hose Wexford by 25 points. Yet somehow people were still saying afterwards that it could have been different had Guiney not been dropped, as though he'd single handedly turn the game around.

It's the same with Newman, he's a good player who TBH has probably not hit the heights we thought possible seeing him 4/5 years ago. But apparently he'd have somehow totally reversed the dire performance Meath put out saturday, and the intensity Kildare brought to the game?

Going Forward, i think the Management are the ones that need to improve more so than anyone!
Firstly - if this happened with the previous management there would be an all out carnage on this forum and calls for them to go as usual!
Maybe we should start realising.... is it all the management fault... are the players really there???

But Sunday was a lot to do with the Management - and this is not an attack on them. I for one was delighted to see them coming in and was as excited as anyone!!

BUT......
1) Not learning from the League - Andy Mc said himself - "Kildare did their homework". Thats what management is supposed to do!! why didn't we??
2) The warmup was not only extremely strenuous.... it was like something from the 60s. Kildare's was long too but every drill was about 2 min long and game orientated!!
3) You pick your best players in their best positions and start from the back! Menton is a centre back or Full Back, Keoghan is one of the best corner backs around. We need better midfielders!! COS should be 11 and pulling the strings - not overdoing it with the ball. GR at 10. - he should never have is back to the goal
4) You learn quickly in a match what the oppositions tactics are - Kildare had the same kickout routine for the whole match and we did nothing.
5) You prepare your team properly - our kickouts looked like we had no clue what we were doing. we spent most of the match with 1 or 2 Forwards in our whole Forward line. Nobody supporting the man on ball and man on ball running into cul de sacs
6) You man manage - some players didn't look like they were mentally ready!
7) You learn from your previous match - 3 goals against a poor Louth Team followed by 2 from kildare!

I was very surprised with our performance to be honest and was expecting more from this regime but to be honest it was the poorest display from a Meath setup I have seen in many years - from a coaching/prep/performance perspective

I hope we can improve quickly but im sick of going through new management every few years and saying the same things about giving them a chance!!

Yep that's pretty much exactly what I was referring to last night. It seems in the eyes of some posters. If you don't get playing time on a day when the team loses, then you improve dramatically as a footballer....

That works both ways if your not playing your presumed injured out the picture suddenly your started do badly and taken off.the lad that's playing mist the league O'Byrne cup suddenly is dropped. Power comes to mind my point is if your out there for ridicule you have to perform. if your injured?? The supporters give you some slack.you get no game time or very little your presumed useless.
