Replying To LeitrimRoyal99:  "Back from the DCU St Mary's game. 2 things struck me. 1. The far less talented team on paper won through hardwork, smart play and never say die, we could learn a lot. And 2, probably more importantly the number of no name players from other countries that played while 2 of our most touted prospects Dan O'Neill and Thomas O'Reilly didn't play. Not good signs for our future"
Why didn't they play?

Both lads were listed on the bench, neither got on.

Didn't see any of the DCU bench in fairness so maybe they are hurt. Hope to God we get the two of them fully healthy for 21's. 2 of our most important players

"The number of no name players from other counties who played while two of our most touted prospects sat on the bench."

These no name players were as follows.

10. Diarmuid O'Connor - A recipient of the Young Footballer of the Year Award.

11. Hugh McFadden - A Donegal panellist and very highly regarded up there. Has featured over the last few seasons.

12. Enda Smith - An All Ireland U-21 winner and key player for Roscommon.

13. James Durcan - Castlebar clubman who is a Mayo senior panellist and talented free taker, kicked 4 in the Connacht U-21 final a few years back.

14 - Niall Murphy - Sligo's dngerman up front. Kicked 5 points from play in last years Connacht semi-final and was a key man on the Connacht Inter Pro team in December.

15. Ryan Burns - One of the brightest young players in Leinster. A fine talent who has destroyed Meath corner backs in the past and was the man we put our best defender on last June.

When I've time I can talk you through the backs on the DCU team if you'd like.

But those six forwards are far from "no name players".

Eoin Smith from Dublin at corner back can you tell me who he is ?, David Mannix, James Mealiff, Tom Lahiffe. They even had a Leitrim yes you read that correct Leitrim under 21 in Mark Plankett who started at 11. Btw they also took both James Durcan and Hugh McFadden off only to bring them both back on. So yes they had a great forward 6 but there was no room for our lads.

And just for the sake of accuracy, Enda Smith an All Ireland under 21 winner. The last time Roscommon won that title was 1978. Don't think he was involved in that who knows maybe he is a mature student. He was bloody brilliant regardless, DCU's best player

On a note contrary to my earlier post food to see Carlow IT run UCC to extra time that team had Ross, Ronan and Kevin Ryan from Shill and Niall Kane from Simonstown

O'Neill was on crutches on Tuesday,so I can't understand why you say that he was fit to play.

Hahaha Jack, couldn't have put it better myself. Some people seem to be confusing "no name players" with "players whose name *I* don't know.

Ok and what about the subs I named, do you care to tell me who they are. Honestly I was watching a DCU Sigerson match on a Wednesday. You think I don't know who those players are. It was more the use of non county dub subs and reintroducing of two players who were taken off that worried me. These guys are meant to be the stalwarts of our 21's team and future seniors and yet DCU consider some Dublin club players better, does that not worry you ?

Eoin Smith - Started corner back on Dublin u21s last year.
Tom Lahiffe - Started wing back on Dublin u21s last year and was on dub stars this year.
Mark Plunkett - Started midfield for Leitrim Seniors in NFL last weekend
James Mealiff - Came on for Monaghan seniors in win over Mayo at the weekend.
Only name I don't recognise is David Mannix.
I think we can drop this arguement now

I stand corrected on those bench names, thanks for enlightening me. It's still a bit worrying to me though. Lot of lads (myself included) very high on O'Reilly and O'Neill being seniors maybe even this year. Just not good to see them not get played

How are the U21's shaping up?, believe they are out next week against Westmeath in the championship.
I hear there is a lot of injuries in the camp, any update on availability of Rowe, Jones etc....
