To answer your q's.. Yes I 100% believe if we didn't change both the players and the culture attached to them, we would be at least two years behind where we are. You might not like it but that group was going absolutely nowhere, and without trying to offend anyone involved in that panel, there were no real leaders bar sham and bray.

And yes again, I genuinely believe we hold the incredibly hollow title of 2nd best in leinster. At times you could see flashes of the potential this group has, the glaring lack of consistency and mental grit is the issue. No disrespect to management but they were clearly inept at this, along with their inability to read a game in real time and make the necessary changes.

The foundations are in place and despite all the doom and gloom you read on here I'm optimistic and excited about the next 3/4 years! Tenfold more if Andy Mc gets involved!

An Mhí Abú!!"
I agree with you, that is why is is VITAL we get the right man now.If we don't we may never see this team reach its potential.

All , Noticed that there's very little coming from the Meath Co Board on the current debacle . Any ideas on what they are doing . Mick obviously feels that the shackles are off so he doesn't need to worry about PR for the County board anymore .

How can we be second best in Leinster? We are only better than the teams we have beaten in last few years, Louth Wicklow and Carlow. This is the kind of thinking I expect from CB. Before we can get better we must first face up to how far we have fallen.

Bringing back Joe and Co. now or over the past few years was/ is not the answer.
Indeed they may well have been on the top of their game when Mr. O' Dowd came along (which in hindsight was probably as good as what the new bunch achieved since), but they had their day in the sun, gave it their all and came up short (and thanks for your efforts).

Should Mr. O'Dowd have gotten rid of so many in such a short space of time .... Possibly not
Should Joe and Co. be called back into the panel at this stage.... Definitely not

One thing we have learned form Mr. O Dowds term in charge, he gave quite a lot of new guys a chance and it didn't work out. One reason for this is that the players may not be good enough, or he didn't get the best out of them (maybe a mix of both). As the crop he has chosen are relatively young there is a good chance the new man in charge can make us consistently competitive again with a fresh approach to training but most importantly tactics.

But again we need to walk before we can run. We need more competitive County underage teams and better coaching in schools and clubs.

Yeah that's it, it hurts alot to say that.
But there seems to be a consoling effect if we can say we are second best in Leinster to one of the greatest teams of all time, we are not, would we have beat either Kildare Or Westmeath in the semi? I don't think so,
The teams we have beat in second half prove beyond any reasonable doubt we are not second best. Now under Andy I believe that will change, but the question of bringing back Joe? I don't think so at this point in time.

We do have more competitive county underage teams now.

Whoever the new manager is,has to focus on getting to dv1 in my opinion.Thank god Laois got a player sent off against us the league as I have no doubt we would be in dv3 if they had 15 players on the field..

Meath and W Meath are both very similar but both just dont have the fitness and stamina to stay with the Dubs for 70 mins. The Dubs are as fit as a premier league team and the rest in leinster play like they like a few pints the weekend and just cant be arsed to give the county full 100% . Its an amateur game and hard to give 100% but thats what the dubs do difer

Even carney has said it.
Over now to Andy.
Was texted from a lad I know at game who told me Andy was at match, perhaps seeing what lays ahead? Not sure if he was right or not, but if Andy was there that shows a very positive sign of his intentions.

I have not read through this thread but my opinion on the matter would be:

If there is a panel of 30-35 players of the best footballers in the County, and one follows the club game, then it is very hard to see where the justification was in dropping these fellas.

I will add, between 07 - 11.. Meath had a very strong forward line who got Meath over the line on some occasions when we had a below average mid field and back 6.

In terms of Joe Sheridan, although I would not say he is an excellent footballer my opinion is he is a dangerous player. When he was in FF defences were weary.. he average something like 1-02 a game for a couple of seasons.

So, perhaps it was rash to CUT the like's of Sheridan, Ward, Farell, Bryne and Queeney from the ranks.. instead, they may have been go to bench players at the very least when the younger lads weren't doing it.

Also, stats don't lie.. since these lads were axed Meath have not got results

Go Figure

Joe might be passed it for inter county but he's playing as well as ever for Seneschalstown this year. Plays mainly in midfield at the moment. It was probably a bit hasty to get rid of him so quickly at the time and looking back at the Armagh game a few years back bringing on McDonagh and particularily Joe Wallace to get a goal on a cold wet evening says it all about the plan we had.
