Meath vs Antrim - Christy Ring Final

Replying To Wedgie:  "Yesterday was one of the proudest days of my life as a Meath hurling fan, the support was fantastic and there were grown men crying and hugging one another at the final whistle. I said it all along our fitness would carry us over the line, it almost did the first day (if it wasn't for the scoreboard fiasco) and it did yesterday. They put a huge emphasis on physical fitness, strength and conditioning in the hurling camp this season and the S&C coaches should be acknowledged for their contribution to this achievement.
Another factor that can't be overlooked is the team spirit that existed between this bunch of lads, they just clicked, their heads were in the right place they remained totally focused on the prize and functioned as a unit. Couple this with the mental preparations they've gone through, the team meetings, the address by Sean Boylan last Thursday night, eight months of preparation, hard work and training, hail rain or snow and these lads were ready for anything, they'd have won the World Cup after that. This is something the CB should build on and try to roll out over on the football camp, you make your own success you don't just wait for it to drop into your lap.
You don't wish for it you work for it."
Very good post.
Lets hope the footballers take a page out of the hurlers book.
On fitness levels the hurlers are so much fitter than footballers

Talking to some of the lads from our club who were involved in the team, they never once doubted themselves or their ability to win both of these games, the press were writing them off, the bookies were writing them off but every time I spoke to any of them they were determined they were going up there to win, nothing less than victory. That's a fantastic mindset to be going into any game, you can train seven days a week but if you haven't got the self belief in your abilities to go all the way as a team you're wasting your time. People sometimes underestimate the importance of psychology in sport but the Meath back room team should be applauded for instilling this belief in themselves, if only we could bottle it and give it to the footballers. With the right support mechanisms in place there's no reason why Meath GAA shouldn't be competing at the highest level in both codes, we need to be looking forward not harping back to past glories, the county board needs to sit down with the clubs and develop a long term strategy to get us back to the top table whatever it takes, there isn't a GAA fan in the entire country that wouldn't have given anything to get what we got yesterday. The lads have shown us what can be done its up to us now to drive forward and build on this. An Mhi Abu.

Two all Ireland finals in the one month I can't believe I get to do it all again today with another trip to the home of Meath GAA (Croke Park) to support the footballers in the Leinster.
At this rate we're going to be needing a spare Meath jersey to get through all the games.

Do the footballers have this belief? The evidence suggests that they don't.. These hurlers had a lot of setbacks in both games and it didn't bother them.

Very well done to our Hurlers, it can't have been easy to get back up for this game given the farcical circumstances but they got the job done and showed great character and determination along the way.

A very good well deserved result for the hurlers and the best of luck to them going forward, the have come a long way with little support and a small catchment. I would add if a guy needs a psychologist to tell him he can win a match then he should not be on the team or indeed the panel.

Ziggy Belief does not win matches- Most teams playing have belief but only one wins!

What a day in Croker Saturday, the emotions were unbelievable. We'd lost it, we'd won it, it was a draw & then we broke their hearts again.

What a game. Great to see the jersey worn with pride. What a performance, never say die attitude. Fully deserved. Legends.

Enjoy the celebrations again men. #AnMhíAbú

No he's not.

Sure he score 1-14 in a league match for Kiltale last week.

Absolutely delighted for this team and management. What a proud day to be in croke park. This proves 2 things....the small ball is alive and well in Meath and also nobody is irreplaceable. The 26 lads that chose to represent their county and we're willing to commit themselves are the ones that we should be talking about. Well done to all involved!

I heard that the messages are flooding in to these lads from every corner of this country, Roscommon, Donegal, Down , Kerry, Longford,Clare Leitrim,Offaly,Laois, and too many more to mention. Who could have known that so many people were right behind the Meath Hurlers . What a great day for Hurling in Meath. This team are known for sailing their own ship. Best of luck to team and management for next season ( which is not too far away , Oct/Nov). What a year. Unbelievable.

Agree totally with previous two posts
The 26 men that lined out deserve all the credits
Forget about lads who made themselves unavailable or what not
No man is bigger than a team no matter what he scores in a league game
what they went through for each other over the last few weeks shows the bond they have

What a game. What spirit. Where does this leave Meath next year in the Leinster Championship ?. I have heard some staying they are in the preliminary group while others saying they will be straight into playing one of the big boys ?
