New Meath Hurling Manager

(Oldest Posts First)

I know it's early days yet but anyone hear anything ? , new u20 manager nominations close tomorrow and senior nominations close next Wednesday so I believe .
Big shake up needed as hurling seems to be falling behind a good bit. Only success we had this year was our minor hurlers ! Our u16 hurlers are doing well which is good prep for minor next year.

I'd be very surprised if Bulfin doesn't get the senior manager job and bring in a few others with him.

God I hope not. That whole set up needs to be cleared. You only need to talk to people from down that end of the country and they will tell you the name should be bluffing.

Would like to see Pat O'Halloran or maybe Mike Cole give it a go. Would need to have a good trainer in with them but their passion for the game and also knowledge of what is out there and what is coming through the ranks in Meath would be a huge benefit to a squad in transition. Need to build for the next 5 years, actually competing in Joe McDonagh, not a token Christy Ring win and get relegated again the following year. A Padraic Joyce mindset when he took over Galway footballers, people said he was mad when he stated an all ireland win was his goal but look at how close they came yesterday.

Whoever it will be will have their hands full in getting a team together to compete at Joe McDonagh level over the next couple of years. At the senior championship game tonight and a couple the previous round, the standard at club level is really poor compared to other counties ahead of us. It's night and day compared to even Dublin for example. One approach is having a greater professionalism at inter county level and allowing that to filter down to the clubs. Theres been a more professional setup the last 3 years which will have a trickle down effect on the clubs but we will need progress coming the other way from the clubs to raise the level of players we can call into the county. At the moment we are too good for Christy Ring and not good enough for Joe McDonagh.

Best of luck to the new coaching set up. A bit unsure tbh as the game has moved on but open mind. Need some players to come through a good championship and stake for starting spots, not just squad players...

Now Confirmed. Stephen Clynch and Slue Reilly stay on as selectors. Can't imagine Bulfin will get to too many club games travelling from Limerick.

Much the same as before but with 'one less mouth to feed'. Can't see much prospect of any change and you're right I can't see Bulfin making many club games but then again he might be on super expenses.....only Blufin.
