Mark Usher clears his lines for Navan O'Mahonys

Navan O'Mahonys 4-13 - 3-13 Na Fianna

Navan O'Mahonys advanced to the last 4 of the Intermediate Hurling Championship with a hard fought 3 point victory over Na Fianna at a sodden Athboy on Monday evening.

O'Mahonys who led throughout held a 2-6 to 1-6 advantage at half time with the goals coming from Michael Kelly and a penalty from captain Paddy Skehan. When Kelly and Barry Regan added further goals in the 3rd quarter, the Navan men looked set for a more comfortable win.

To Na Fianna's credit, they reduced a 7 point deficit to 3 but that was as close as they got with O'Mahonys holding on for the victory to top Group A.

Best for the victors were Mark Usher, James Murphy, Dylan Regan, Derek Loughran and Kelly.

Navan O'Mahonys 4-13 Na Fianna 3-13

Navan O'Mahonys advanced straight to the semi-final stages of the Intermediate hurling championship following their 3 point victory over Na Fianna in Athboy on Monday evening.

Both teams were unbeaten coming into this last group game and this fixture determined that Navan O'Mahonys would get the direct route to semi-final while Na Fianna will now play Gaeil Colmcille in the quarter final.

Na Fianna started brightly with an early Mark Slevin free but Navan O'Mahonys then began to dominate hitting 1-4 without reply in a 15 minute spell. Barry Slevin hit two frees and two points by Peter Slevin saw Na Fianna trailing by 2 points after 20 minutes. Navan O'Mahonys then pointed two points in between a Na Fianna point by Sean Coffey. In the closing stages of 1st half Navan O'Mahony were awarded a penalty which was scored to see them leading 2-6 0-6 . From the next play Mark Slevin was fouled on the 21 yard line, Barry Slevin expertly dispatched to the back of the net to leave his side trailing by 3 points at the break.

2 early Barry Slevin frees and one by Navan O'Mahonys reduced the deficit to 2, however Navan O'Mahonys then struck two further goals in between 2  frees by Slevin. Navan O'Mahonys continued their dominance with the next two points from play which saw them lead 4-9 to 1-10 at the three quarter stage. Na Fianna got their second goal through Peter Slevin but the Navan men then pointed a free to see their lead now at 6. A further Na Fianna goal by Cian Slattery with 5 minutes remaining had the deficit down to 3 but Navan O'Mahonys responded with the next 2 points. Points by Barry Slevin  and Peter Slevin had their lead down to 3 points again. Navan O'Mahonys then pointed as Barry Slevin reduced this to 3 points again in injury time as Na Fianna could not get a goal to force a draw.
