ST. MICHAELS LADIES MATCH REPORT

Saturday April 22nd 2017

St. Michaels 4-12, Ratoath 2-06

St. Michaels ladies proved too strong for Ratoath as they came through this division 2 league match on Saturday evening last in Carlanstown with a comprehensive victory.

The game was over as a contest long before the half time whistle had sounded with the hosts finding the net on three occasions in the opening period on their way to a 3-9 to 2-1 interval lead. In fairness to Ratoath they plugged away for the entire match and had some fine performers especially in the second half. Seona and Erin Lynch got the scoring off the mark adding two points apiece in the opening 10 minutes, Megan O'Brien got the first of her tally of 2-3 with a point on 12 minutes. Patricia Owens hammered home the first goal at the end of the opening quarter after been put through by O'Brien. Mary Clinton collected the next kick-out and split the posts with a fine point before player of the match Megan O'Brien bagged 2-1 in a three minute spell for a 3-7 to 1-0 lead on 22 minutes, Ratoath's opening goal came on 16 minutes. Owens and O'Brien were again on target with a point apiece for the home side before the interval. Ratoath bagged 1-1 in the closing 4 minutes of the half to reduce the deficit and trail by 2-1 to 3-9 at the break.

The St. Michaels management team emptied their bench following the break and substitute Marion Farrelly made an immediate impact with literally her first touch as she managed to squeeze the ball between the upright and the Ratoath 'keeper from a free kick for her sides fourth major three minutes after the restart. Scores were few and far between for the remainder of the second period however further points from Mary Clinton (2) and Erin Lynch (1) completed a good evenings work for the home side. Ratoath pressed hard throughout the second half but the St. Michaels defence worked hard as a unit to quell any danger presented by the visitors who got through for five second half points, but this was St. Michaels game to lose and they never looked like doing so.
