B FL Div 2: Oldcastle come up short in Seneschalstown

April 20, 2017

Oldcastle's Conor Delaney

Seneschalstown 0-14 Oldcastle 1-8

Oldcastle faced a stern test away to Seneschalstown in perfect playing conditions Wednesday evening.

Seneschalstown were quick out of the blocks and knocked over 3 quick points until Oldcastle's full-forward Michael Morris hit 1-3 from play and two Niall Mangan free's increased the away side's lead. However the home side continued to attack with menace on the Oldcastle defence and hit over 6 points (2 from frees) to edge the home side infront by a point at half time leaving the sore 0-8 to 1-4 in favour of Seneschalstown.

The home side continued to attack the way they left off in the first half by continuing to test the Oldcastle defence. They knocked over a further three points but Oldcastle stood tall and drove on by firing over a further 4 points to put the teams level through fine kicking from Conor Delaney, Stephen Tierney, Kyle Kavanagh (f) and John Caffrey. Oldcastle had chances to snatch the win in the dying stages of the match however Seneschalstown's place kicking proved to be the difference on the night when they tapped over two late frees and a further point to put the game beyond Oldcastle's reach.

A hearty display from the away side but just came up short on this occasion.
