March 21, 2017

Daniel Byrne Drumconrath Meath Hill

Drumconrath/Meath Hill 2-20 Rathkenny 3-09

Round 1 of the new Under 19 competition saw Drumconrath/Meath Hill take on Rathkenny in Drumconrath.

Rathkenny are now amalgamated with Kilmainhamwood at this grade. Last year some of these K'wood players were teammates of DMH at Minor level.

DMH got off to a flying start with quickfire points from Ryan Carry and Daniel Byrne to lead 2 points to no score after 5 minutes. A long ball from midfield from Rathkenny found the full forward and he finished well from close range past Eoin Muldoon to give Rathkenny the lead 0-02 to 1-0.

DMH gained control in midfield through Ryan Carry and Sean Rooney and racked up the next number of points through Jack Mcmahon, Daniel Byrne and Shaun Murray before a well worked move finished with Byrne hitting the back of the net. Rathkenny responded soon after hitting 1-02. DMH took control again and Jack Mc Mahon hit the net along with further points from Byrne(1), Carry(2), McMahon(2) and McEvoy(1) to finish the first half scoring.

HT score DMH 2-13 to R'Kenny 2-02.

Rathkenny got off to the better start in the second half and scored 2 quick points before they won a penalty and converted it to leave it 3-04 to 2-13. DMH soon realised the game wasn't over yet and began to steady the ship again. Points from Murray(1), Byrne(2) and Jack Mc Mahon(1) opened the gap up to leave 10 points in it. The rest of the game played out evenly with DMH answering points from Rathkenny through Byrne, McMahon and half back James McMahon. DMH emptied the bench for the last 10 minutes to give everyone a run out.

This was a good team performance along with the already mentioned scorers who got good support from Robbie McEnteggart, Sean Rooney and Thomas Carolan. Goalkeeper Eoin Muldoon also put in a good afternoon's work with his long accurate kick outs.

Next up for the squad is a long trip to Summerhill where they will be hoping to maintain their winning way.
