Wolfe Tones, under new manager Tony Kearney, got their season off to a positive start with a win over na Fianna in this preliminary round of the Feis cup played in Kilberry.

Tones looked the hungrier side in the first half and put some flowing moves together to lead at half time on a 2-7 to 0-5 score line.

Na Fianna launched a mini revival on the resumption and hit 3 points without reply.

This come back was stopped in its tracks however by  a point from Cian Ward followed by a goal from Éanna Harrington which left Tones ahead by 3-8 to 0-8 after 40 minutes.

Na Fianna added 3 more points to which Mark Coleman and Éanna Harrington replied before Na Fianna added the final point of the game.

Goals Earn Tones Home Win Over Na Fianna

Na Fianna; 0-12 Wolfe Tones: 3-10

Goals were the difference in Kilberry on Saturday afternoon as Tones were deserved winners. Two first half Cian Ward goals helped Tones to a 2-07 to 0-5 lead.

Na Fianna were much improved in the second half hitting the first three points. Stout defending from Tones denied Na Fianna any clear cut goal opportunities as the home side advanced to the first round proper.

Na Fianna were best served by Shane Geraghty, Peter Slevin, Dean Henrick, Damien Downey, Owen McDonnell, Barry Slevin and Jamie Queeney.
