Guest of honour Joe McGovern with Meath Hurling Board Chairman TJ Reilly

Once again county hurling final day provided the large crowd with plenty of entertainment.

The minor decider between Kildalkey and Trim was one of the best in years while Kiltale and Killyon kept everyone on the edge of their seats right up till the final whistle.

Before the throw in of the senior decider Joe McGovern was introduced to the crowd as guest of honour. Joe played on all of Athboy's five senior hurling championship winning teams in 1966, 1967, 1968, 1970 and 1972.

Killyon went in at the break 1-8 to 0-10 ahead.

During the 15 minute interval the High Kings under 12 and 13 hurling squads were introduced to the crowd. Under the watchful eye of Peter Durnin and Padraig Burke both squads enjoyed a great year. A fundraising draw helped to raise money to allow the Hurling Development Board present a High Kings jersey to each of the squad members.

The High Kings programme has been running seven years and this years county minor team have shown the fruits of this work by reaching the All Ireland B final.
