Ladies League Round Five Recap and Major Scoring in the Minor Championship!

The 'El Classico' of Meath Ladies Football kicked off the fifth round of the adult league in Division One last Tuesday evening. A 0-09 haul from Katie O'Brien as well as goals from Ciara Murray and Niamh Rispin ensured last year's Senior Champions a win over Seneschalstown. The Ultans led by 1-06 to 0-04 at half time and despite a stern challenge from Seneschalstown in the second half, St Ultans took home all three points winning by 2-13 to 1-08.

On Saturday evening, Sarah O'Reilly rescued the game for Oldcastle as the team from North Meath salvaged a draw from their Division One League game against Royal Gaels. Joanna Byrne grabbed two goals for the away side as it finished 2-05 to 1-08. Niamh Gallogly made it a birthday to remember as she hit the back of Karen Cadden's net for the Dunshaughlin side who have now gone three games unbeaten.

On Bank Holiday Monday, Dunboyne lost their 100% record at the top of the Division One table with a single point loss to Dee Rangers. There were 17 mins gone on the clock before either side got the scoreboard ticking over. Sinead Carolan opened the scoring for Dee Rangers who led by 0-05 to 0-02 at the break. Both teams netted in the second half with Shelly Melia netting for Dunboyne before suffering an injury, while substitute Ciara McConnell netted for the Rangers after a pass through by Aoife Conlon. It was Conlon that hit the winner, with the full time score of 1-06 to 1-05 in favour of Dee Rangers throwing the Division One League table now wide open with two rounds left to play.

In Division Two, on Thursday evening, Summerhill Ladies Football got a vital win against St Michaels GFC - winning on a 4-07 to 3-09 scoreline. Jenny Rispin grabbed two goals for the 'Hill while Ciara Daly and Julianne Scanlon also found the back of the net. Marion Farrelly, Aoife Flattery and Leanne Lynch all netted for the Michaels. In Division Four, Moylagh were single point winners over Trim in a titanic battle that ended with the North Meath side 3-08 to 2-10 winners. The result puts Moylagh on top of the Division Four table and into the League Final. They will face Walterstown in the final after the Navan side were big winners over Wolfe Tones on Monday afternoon.

In Division Five, Dunboyne qualified for Adult League final with a hard fought win over Royal Gaels. With Dunboyne midfield pulling the strings in the first half, they went into half time with a convincing 2-10 to 0-5 lead. In second half Royal Gaels came strong and at one stage got to within 5 points of Dunboyne, however a few late points helped Dunboyne over the line. Best for Dunboyne were Niamh & Rachel McDermott, Roisin McGoldrick and Roisin O'Doherty at full forward. Full Time score there was Dunboyne 2-15, Royal Gaels 1-09. St. Ultans overcame Rathkenny/Slane in a high scoring shootout on Monday evening, 6-16 to 5-07 the final score. The result puts St. Ultans into the Division Five final against Dunboyne.

Simonstown reigned supreme in the Division One Final which quickly followed. Lauryn Grier opened the scoring for the North Side Blues in the opening minute with a goal and the 2014 Champs never looked back with Kelsey Nesbitt, Tara Berigan, Niamh Donnelly, Mollie Byrne all on the scoresheet in the opening half. Kim Garrigan netted for Boardsmill deep into injury time but it was the Navan side that led by 5-01 to 1-02 at the break. On the resumption, weather conditions deteriorated as April showers still made their presence felt. Two Tara Berigan goals and one from Kelsey Nesbitt kept the Simonstown scores ticking over in the second half while Boardsmill's Garrigan grabbed her side's second goal with points coming from Rachel Troy, Hannah Tuite and a Paula Dorian free. Despite the gap, Boardsmill never gave up and continued running hard at the Simonstown defence with Niamh Cassidy, Katie Bellew, Regina Hand and Shona Lister all impressing for the side in sky blue. Full time there ended with Simonstown winning on an 8-06 to 2-05 scoreline and they will be serious contenders once more for the 2016 Minor Championship with all bar two of the line-up eligible for this year's competition.
