BFL1: Dunshaughlin end with Kells victory

August 18, 2015

Dunshaughlin's Kenny McTigue

Dunshaughlin 4-13
Gaeil Colmcille 2-15

A strong final quarter from Dunshaughlin ensured a 4 point victory and their Div 1 status intact as their B League campaign for 2015 drew to a close Monday evening in Dunshaughlin.

To say the black and amber had a poor start would be an understatement with the men from Kells racing off to an impressive 7 point lead within the first 10 mins before they finally got off the mark following a beautifully struck Joe O'Brien free. Full forward Ronan Geraghty had been showing well up to this and he made no mistake after 12 mins to find the back of the Gaeil Colmcille net to have Dunshaughlin now fully back in the game following some fine build up play from Danny Quinn and Marty Reilly. The Gaeil Colmcille response was swift with them registering a point a minute later before a trademark David McMahon point for Dunshaughlin had a goal between the teams. A point from play from Stephen Duffy and a converted Marty Reily free was cancelled out by Gaeil Colmcille 45 and converted free after 26 mins before Niall Byrne scored an opportunist goal for Dunshaughlin after 28 mins to now have 1 point between the teams before Gaeil Colmcille were to get the last score of the half to leave 2 points between the teams.

The second half resumed with a trio of points from Marty Reilly in the first 5 mins for Dunshaughlin had them pushing forward with all the momentum but the Kells outfit were always dangerous going forward with them getting 3 points before they were to find the back of the Dunshaughlin net for the second time of the game after 43 mins to have the scoreboard now looking good in their favour. Dunshaughlin to their credit never panicked with Ciaran Hoary raising the white flag while Stephen Duffy showed great maturity to find the back of the Gaeil Colmcile net with 8 mins left to have Dunshaughlin in a favourable position with the game in the balance.  Marty Reilly was to convert two more frees for Dunshauglin while David McMahon finished off a fine Dunshaughlin move with Niall Byrne scoring a great point on the spin but Gaeil Colmcille were to pull back two more points to now have the black and amber ahead by 1 point with time almost up before a piece of magic from corner forward Stephen Duffy found the back of the Gaeil Colmcille net to have Dunshaughlin  win by 4 points in an entertaining high scoring game. Best for Dunshaughlin were Joe O'Brien, Marty Reilly, Stephen Duffy and Niall Byrne.
