Corn na Boinne Cup final: Nobber retain title with extra effort

Nobber retained the Corn na Boinne with a 2 point victory over neighbours Castletown in this entralling encounter at Pairc Tailteann on Saturday evening.

The spectators who were lucky enough to be there were treated to an absolutely brilliant display of Football played the traditional way in a match which hardly deserved a loser.

For work rate 100% committent some great scores marvellous high fielding this match will take some beating and it was Nobbers greater tenacity which saw them through after extra time.

Brian Farrell got Nobber of the mark in the first minute with a well taken point he followed  with further points in the 8th 16th and 25th minutes and then finished smartly to the net in the 26th minute.In the meantime points from Gavin Farrelly,Colin Clarke,Niall Farrell,Karl Casserly,Dean Halpin,Alan Farrell and Sean Meade saw them lead 1.11 to 1.08 at the break.

The second period ebbed and flowed with both sides scoring some memorable points with Brian Farrell again to the fore scoring in the 31st,54th and 55th minutes of normal time. Further scores from Karl Casserly Alan and Niall Farrell saw there total reach 1.17 but Castletown were not going to be outdone and drew level in the 62nd minute to bring the game to extra time.

Nobber had the better of the exchanges in the first period of extra time courtesy of some fine point taking from Sean Meade,Brian Farrell 2 and Niall Farrell to lead by 2 entering the second half of extra time.

Castletown again showed their tremendous resolve outscoring Nobber 3 to 1  in the opening 4 minutes  of the last period but Nobber again showed the outstanding attitude and desire which they have displayed in this campaign ,and with further minors from Niall,Brian Farrell and Gerard Campbell they prevailed to win a wonderful game of football played in a very sporting manner.

Captain Alan Farrell was presented with the Corn na Boinne by Co Board official Peter O Halloran.
