Junior C FC: Na Fianna miss out on quarter final place

July 23, 2015

Ethan Devine Na Fianna

Na Fianna 0-9 Dunsany 1-10

Na Fianna lost out to a stronger Dunsany side in Boardsmill on Wednesday evening and in doing so saw their hopes of a quarter final place dashed.

Dunsany dominated the middle of the field throughout and Na Fianna struggled to make any inroads through their defence. Na Fianna mustered only four points in the opening half with impressive Minor player Ethan Devine claiming three from placed balls including two 45's. Pauric Hogan finished the half with a pointed effort from close in. Na Fianna were in arrears by 0-4 to 0-7 at half time.

Na Fianna battled hard in the second half led by Evan Mullally, Cian Slattery and Owen McDonnell but they could not contain their opponents who got in for a goal and restricted Na Fianna to just five more points. Devine continued to excel, claiming two good points from play, another free and another 45 and with Sean Griffin also converting a free, a youthful Na Fianna never got close to troubling a rampant Dunsany side.

Best for Na Fianna were Evan Mullally, Ciaran Gilna, Owen McDonnell, Cian Slattery, Ethan Devine, Pauric Hogan and Paul Kennedy.

Na Fianna: Ciaran Brennan, Ciaran Gilna, Evan Mullally, Owen McDonnell, Rob Walsh, Paddy Haslam, Lee Hyland, Donal Curran, Cian Slattery, Pauric Hogan (0-1), Sean Griffin (0-1,f), Ethan Devine (0-7, 3 45s, 2f), Mark Slevin, Mickey Cole, Paul Kennedy.

Subs: Eoin Downey for Haslam, Ben Caldwell for Hyland, Mark Coffey for Cole.
