IHC: Big win for Clann against Na Fianna

Clann na nGael remain unbeaten in the Intermediate Hurling Championship after this tough win against one of the Favourites for this years Intermediate Championship in Sunny Boardsmill  on Sunday.

Both sides played tough committed Hurling from the off and it was nip and tuck for the first half .The big score of the half was a Benny Murray goal .Murray rolled back the years with a a total of 1-3 from play on the night.The half time score was 1-8 to 0-7 in favour of the Athboy/Rathcairn men.

The second half began with Clann again on top and they stretched their lead to 5 points with a Daithí Geraghty free.Gary Cole replied to two Na Fianna points to maintain the 4 points lead entering the  final quarter.Na Fianna briefly threatened to pull the game out of the fire with two quickfire points to reduce the lead to 2 points with 10 minutes left.They looked to be heading for another score when Aarron Ennis dispossessed his man as he headed for goal,as he attempted to clear he was fouled and from the resultant free from all of 80 yards he fired over a great score to steady the ship. Eamonn O Donnachada on for the second half got a point straight away from the puck out and Clann  looked safe.Jack Doherty got the last score of the game a superb long range effort from the wing.With time almost up Na Fianna went for goals but the Clann na nGael backs kept it tight and held on to record the win which sets the up nicely for the rest of this years Intermediate Championship.
