Slane Minor team played their semi-final last Sunday night against a Blackwater Gales combination in Drumbaragh.

The game got under way with Slane playing with the breeze but we found ourselves 3 points down before we registered our first score,.. a free from Eanna , we gathered our selves and another 2 frees from Eanna brought us level after matt had been fouled on both occasions and shortly afterwards was subbed through injury. Podge was running at our opponents and was creating spaces and passes for our forwards to which Stephen scored 2 points from play to keep us in the game with his clever running off the ball. Another free from Eanna, a point a piece from Podge and Eanna saw us go in at half-time level at 9 points each.

The second half got under way but unfortunately for us we found ourselves conceding a goal and 2 points in the first 10 minutes but credit to the lads they kept battling and supporting each other right up to the final whistle. Two points each from Podge and Eanna reduced the deficit and kept us in touch before we conceded another goal against the run of play. Eoin, Finn, and Aaron were doing their best in defence supported by Liam, Peter and Tadhg our forwards never gave up running and we eventually ran out losers to a scoreline of Slane 0-13 Blackwater Gaels 2-14 .

This was the first time that we fielded a minor football team in a number of years on our own and credit to all the lads who helped us get to the semi -final and those who were unavailable yesterday Daniel Forde Ralph McGuinness, Gavin Carolan and Norbert Potomski. Best of luck to Blackwater Gales in the final.
