St Patrick's 2-10
O'Mahonys 1-12

A late surge saw St Patrick's claim a surprise A FL Division 1 win at Brews Hill on Wednesday night when hosts O'Mahonys were condemned to their second loss of the campaign.

It was a merited outcome for the tenacious Stamullen-Julianstown ouffit who have now completed a league double over Navan sides having defeated Simonstown in the previous round.

St Pat's were two points down with 56 minutes gone before rallying with a brace of points each from Niall Mooney and sub Shane Landy. Ruairi O Coileain's seventh point of the evening for O'Mahonys completed the scoring.

The scores were tied five times in a lively opening half in which both sides netted in quick succession midway through. Rory Maguire bagged the opening goal for O'Mahonys when placed by Alan Forde.

Within two minutes Neil O'Flaherlly levelled matters at 1-3 each with Donal Landy providing the assist. The sides were level twice more before an O Coileain free left the home side 1-6 to 1-5 ahead at the break.

The second half was a more fragmented affair but the closeness of the scores maintained interest.

O Coileain had a goal chance at the Brews Hill end shortly after the restart, but St Pat's 'keeper Robert Cluskey claimed the ball comfortably. Scores from Henry Finnegan and Shane Gillespie moved O'Mahonys 1-8 to 1-5 clear after 39 minutes.

Then the scores were tied for the sixth and penultimate time when Donal Landy goaled. O'Mahonys responded to move two points clear on as many occasions with Gillespie getting their final score from play in the 47th minute.

Then came the late burst that saw St Pat's secure their fourth win from six league outings. O'Mahonys have played one game less as their meeting with Wolfe Tones in the previous was rained off.

The sides are set to meet again in a hoganstand.com SFC Group B fixture at Duleek on Friday, May 22.
