Thomas Coyle Blackhall Gaels

Blackhall Gaels 1-5
St. Ultans 1-13

The Blackhall Junior C team began their Championship run on Sunday in Killmessan against St. Ultans.

The lads started well with an early point from John Kelly but St. Ultans came back with a point of their own and that was the end of Blackhall's lead. James Kelly was one of the best for the Gaels as he worked hard up and down the field along with bursts from Tom Delany and nearly all of the backs. Shane Whitty carried the ball up the pitch numerous times but, unfortunately, it was the Ultans who did all the scoring. At the half it was 1-6 to 0-3 to the north Meath men.

At the reset, Blackhall brought in Andy Brady and the newly returned Tomas Coyle. Again Blackhall had more possession but couldn't get the scores. butler kept Blackhall in the game with several unbelievable saves but Blackhall needed scores. As Ultans kept slotting over the points, Blackhall needed a miracle. Finally, the tide turned and Blackhall got a penalty, which the brilliant John Kelly scored. Niall Kelly then got a point, followed by another John Kelly point bringing his tally for the day to 1-4. Unfortunately, it was too little too late for the Blackhall lead and St. Ultans ran out clear winners on a score line of 1-13 to 1-5. The Juniors now need to regroup and look forward to their second round in the 3rd of May against Clann Na nGael.
