Camogie: good win for Blackhall

April 19, 2015

Blackhall Gaels 4-16
Kildalkey 4-5

The Blackhall Gaels camogie girls lined out on Friday evening in the first round of the championship against newly promoted Kildalkey. The warm evening brought a good crowd to watch the girls give new manager, Tom Murphy, a winning championship debut.

The first half saw the girls struggle to get going. The backs were kept under constant pressure, and Kildalkey managed to get 2-5 before the break at half time, leaving the scoreline at 2-5 to 0-7.

However, once the second half began, the Blackhall girls began to play to the standard they have always been capable of. Captain Amy Crosbie played a vital role sweeping the half back line and between herself and the other backs plenty of ball got up to the forwards with good clearances coming from the full backs. Kristina Troy found the net 4 times, and Jane Dolan pointed an impressive tally of 12 points. Points also came from Holly Geraghty and Aileen Coyle, who scored a fantastic point from an impossible angle. Éabha Ryan and Ann Murphy worked hard in the middle of the field, and all of the backs, who were kept on their toes throughout the game, did really well.
