HL1: Blackhall push O'Mahony's all the way

March 16, 2015

Blackhall Gaels Niall Mangan

Blackhall Gaels 1-5
Navan O'Mahony's 2-7

Blackhall hurlers lined out to face Navan O'Mahony's on Sunday last. While they were missing both Shane Whitty and Stephen Morris to county, the lads were not about to lie down. The game was defensive and tough, the few spectators freezing on the line saw some excellent hurling from both sides. However, there is plenty to improve on and no doubt new manager Kevin Maye and crew will ensure that happens.

Although two goals went in, Emmet Dalton had a superb game, stopping another 5 or 6 attempts. All six backs had great games, especially the two corner backs. It was their work that kept the score so low in the opening half. At halftime O'Mahony's led 1-1 to a point. Tom Murphy stepped up to take some long distance frees and while they didn't come off perfectly the distance and accuracy was there. Around the middle was dominated by the formidable force of Colm Whitty and Niall Mangan who not only worked tirelessly in defense but kept the ball moving forwards throughout the game as well. Kieran Devaney and the two O'Loughlin brothers are among the most intelligent players Blackhall has on offer and are sure to continue their brilliant plays throughout the league and indeed the championship. Unfortunatey for the Blackhallians O'Mahony's pipped the post in the end with more clinical scores upfront as well as placed balls. The final score was O'Mahony's 2-7 Blackhall 1-5.

The hurlers are out again next Saturday (21st) against Kildalkey.
