SOSAD Sevens launch

December 18, 2014

Nobber were the first ever winners.

The launch of the second annual SOSAD Sevens Gaelic football tournament was held in Dee Local bar Nobber on Friday 12th of December.

The event is organised to promote positive mental health in Meath through the medium of Gaelic Games. Representatives and players from clubs in Meath were in attendance to promote the launch.

The launch was attended by Helen Mc Entee TD who has generously sponsored the SOSAD Sevens Cup for the tournament. Also in attendance was SOSAD Navan representatives Marie Johnston and Lilly Moriarty. Marie spoke of the importance of communication among young men and highlighted the need to develop an ethos within the GAA community where open discussion around mental health issues are greatly encouraged.

Once again 16 Meath club teams will battle in out to become the 2014 SOSAD 7s Champions. Last year's event was a huge success that produced some scintillating displays of Gaelic Football. Most notably was the encounter between a Mc Entee Family select team v Syddan. After two blistering halves and extra time, Syddan emerged victorious in a sudden death penalty shoot-out. In the final, Nobber, who overcame a very talented Drumconrath side in their semi-final, eventually emerged champions over Syddan to become the first ever winners of the SOSAD Sevens.

It was a double success for the Nobber club on the day, Meath legend Gerry Mc Entee made a triumphant return to his native club as they also claimed the Masters Sevens (over 40s) exhibition match when defeating rivals Castletown. The Masters Sevens Cup was kindly sponsored by Siobhan Moore of Pestle and Mortar.

The SOSAD Sevens event takes place on St Stephens Day December 26th in Nobber GAA Park from 10am. Presentation takes place afterwards in Dee Local pub at 4pm.
All proceeds raised on the day will be donated to SOSAD Navan.
