The Meath Under 14 squad and mentors celebrate at Stamullen

On Bank holiday Monday, the quite village of Stamullen was the location chosen for the final Blitz of the year for the Meath U14 Development team. This panel has put in a very successful year, with victories obtained against Dublin, Kildare, Louth, Monaghan, Down, Cavan, Longford, Westmeath and Laois to their credit.

The Meath Coaching & Games Department in conjunction with St Patricks GFC have turned this date into an annual event with the standard of participants second to none.

This year the County teams in attendance were, Kildare, Louth, Laois and Meath.

These teams would have crossed paths during the year with results varying. But the big focus in St Pats GFC on bank Holiday Monday was who would take the spoils at this end of season blitz.

Meath and Kildare both travelled with two teams for this blitz while Laois and Kildare brought their "A" teams to the contest.

The teams were split up into two divisions, with three teams in both. This ensured at least two competitive matches for all the teams. The winner of each division then played against each other in a blitz final to claim the spoils for the day. The games programme started at 10.30 am and the football was hot and heavy from the start, the best footballers from all the four counties at this age level displayed their ample skills for the large crowd gathered to see  the future stars of Leinster football.

The games were run off very efficiently, and in a good sporting manner, however the energy sapping, intensity of the games took their toll on all teams. The Meath U14 team emerged victorious from Division 1 having defeated Kildare and Laois, while the Kildare representatives in Division 2 emerged with a clean record, having defeated the Meath and Louth.

In the final Meath raced in to a 1-3 to 0-1 lead but Kildare fought back at went in at the break 2-1 to 1-3 ahead. The home side were four points down heading in to the last 15 minutes but it was Meath who dominated and were back on level terms with three minutes left. Kildare took the lead as the clock ticked down but Meath were not to be denied and a goal in the dying seconds clinched a memorable win. Final score Meath 2-8 Kildare 2-6.
