Ladies day Saturday and Sunday

September 02, 2014

Action from last years senior decider at Ashbourne as Katie O'Brien St Ultans and Seneschalstown's Stacey Grimes contest the ball.

Meath Ladies Championship finals will take place this weekend. On Saturday Donaghmore Ashbourne will play host to the Junior A Final between Dee Rangers (last years beaten finalists) and Dunsany. This game will throw in at 2pm.

Hot on the heels of the Junior final is the Intermediate final. This will be contested by last years Junior A champions Simonstown and as yet an unknown opponent. It will be either Summerhill or Ratoath. Their game ended level after extra time on Sunday evening. The replay is due to take place in Ashbourne on Wednesday night at 7.30pm. The Intermediate Final throws in at 4pm on Saturday.

The final piece in the puzzle will be the Senior Championship final. Once again long time rivals Seneschalstown and St. Ultans will do battle for the top honours. This game will throw in at 6.15pm.

All games are expected to be close affairs. Dee Rangers will start out as slight favourites in the Junior final with all thoughts of last year's defeat firmly put to bed ahead of the game. Dunsany have been there or there abouts for the last few years and feel this is their year. Too close to call.

The Intermediate final is another game which could go either way. Simonstown, who won against the odds in the Junior final in 2013, have seen off just about everyone in this year's competition, with the exception of Ratoath. If Summerhill win their replay with Ratoath, they will be looking for some kind of redemption after they lost out narrowly to Navan O'Mahonys in the same final last year. They definitely don't want or need to lose another final. Ratoath had a fabulous start to their championship campaign and ran out easy winners in most of their games. Things have slowed down with them in recent time but they still look a decent outfit. Simonstown definitely look the team to beat at the moment, but on the day anything can happen. This is football after all.

The Senior final also could go either way. St. Ultans definitely came into this years championship with a new determination. They started off the year with a well deserved victory in the Division 1 League final against Oldcastle. Seneschalstown started slowly and have been building up momentum over the last number of weeks with some big name players returning to the fold. Once again this one is hard to predict!!

A great day's entertainment is predicted. All finals will have mini games at half time.

On Sunday, Boardsmill Junior team will play in the Junior B Championship final having seen off the challenge of Ballivor on Sunday. Their opposition will either be Moylagh or Wolfe Tones - both teams who are currently rebuilding. Wolfe Tones travel to Moylagh tomorrow evening at 7pm to play for a chance in the final on Sunday. The venue and time for Sunday's final will be announced on Wednesday.
