JFC C Final: Red cards ruin decider.

August 30, 2014

Niall Mangan and Cormac Sullivan are sent to the line by referee Peter Sheridan.

Blackhall Gaels and St Patricks will have to do it all over again in the Meath Junior C football championship final after playing out an exciting draw at Pairc Tailteann.

Blackhall Gaels 0-8
St Patricks 0-8

The game played in a very sporting manner produced three sending offs. Referee Peter Sheridan issued red cards to the Sullivan brothers Peter and Cormac from St Pats and also to Blackhall's Niall Mangan.

The teams were deadlocked at the break 0-4 each. Blackhall after kicking some bad wides got on the scoreboard first through Aidan Dalton. Mark Crampton added another before the outstanding Barry Campbell pulled one back for St Pats. Alan Vickers leveled the game before Campbell kicked the score of the game to put his team one up. Half backs Colm Whitty (Blackhall) and Pats JP Ryan traded scores as the teams went in at the break level.

Campbell put Pats ahead early in the second half only for Coyle to level once more. All Ireland medal winner Cormac 'Spud' Murphy put St Pats ahead again before the first sending off. Only on the pitch as a half time substitute Peter Sullivan was red carded after the referee consulted with his umpires.

Down to 14 men the pressure began to tell on the Stamullen men. Blackhall began to dominate. Crampton and Mark Ferris pointed to tie the game before Niall Mangan put them in front.

As the game entered the closing stages St pats needed some inspiration. Former Meath and Ireland keeper Cormac Sullivan provided that. A fantastic catch and a solo at the heart of the Blackhall defence led to Conor Tully kicking the equaliser as the game entered injury time.

With time almost up Peter Sheridan issued a double red to Sullivan and Mangan for an off the ball incident.
