U16 SL: Carpenter inspires Skryne to victory

Skryne proved that they are the best Under 16 team in the county with this Division 1 Summer League final win over St Colmcilles last night at Pairc Tailteann. The Tara lads have already claimed the Division 1 FL title with a final day win over Donaghmore Ashbourne and went through the year unbeaten.

Full forward Paddy Carpenter was the star of the show scoring three first half goals. The winners dominated the opening half and were quick in to their stride with points from Jason Reddy and Eoin Smyth. Conor O'Byrne replied for St Colmcilles before Reddy and Darren Fox added to the Skryne tally. The lively James Conlon got his first score of the night before Carpenter got in for his first major. Conlon got his second point but the seasiders were rocked with two quick fire Carpenter goals and Skryne led 3-4 to 0-3. The Cilles faired better in the closing stages and were rewarded with  points from Conlon and O'Byrne. Skryne went in at the break 3-4 to 0-5 ahead.

James 'Banty' Conlon gave Colmcilles the perfect start in the early stages of the second half with a fine goal. Carpenter replied with a point. Conlon closed the gap to four with two points. Skryne were still holding their own at this stage and Carpenter, again, along with Reddy opened up a six point lead once more. St Colmcilles began to dominate. Skryne lost influential midfielder Darragh Campion to injury. James McElarney race forward twice from the centre back position to land two fine points. A superb block from full back Dean Reddy prevented a certain Ciolmcilles goal. Skryne were under pressure and needed a score. Up stepped team captain Jason Fox to send over from close range an steady the winners ship. Conlon with his 6th and Luke Thorp traded points before referee Patrick McNelis blew the final whistle to end a very entertaining game.
