BFL1: O'Mahonys defeat Dunshaughlin

July 18, 2014

Dunshaughlin's James Rattigan
O'Mahonys 1-10
Dunshaughlin 0-08

Brews Hill on a sunny Thursday was the venue as Dunshaughlin resumed their B league campaign after a long lay off.

With a few lads away on holiday a skeleton crew took to the field with a few positional changes that seen Garry 'the hitman' Flanagan line out at corner back and Danny 'the sheebeen' Geraghty at wing back while 'true blue' Brendan Duggan found himself deep in enemy territory lining out at corner forward while Club chairman Neil o'Dwyer rolled up his bespoke shirt and helped out on the line. Things could not have started better for Dunshaughlin with the south Meath outfit racing off into the lead with some lovely scores from Brendan Duggan and James Rattigan. Dunshaughlin however were a victim at times to their over elaborate play and taking the ball into tackle and played into the salles hands which gave the hoops the initiative to come forward.

A beautiful pass from Niall Kelly seen Brendan Duggan got his second of the game who processes a similar style to Dublin great Dessie Farrell and James Rattigan who earlier passed his driving test and put his darts final loss behind him to score an audacious score with his left foot and a beautiful free off his right to have Dunshaughlin right in the game and 5 points to the good. Navan o'Mahonys though kept plugging away and finished the half strongly to level things up as the first half came to an end. Sadly for Dunshaughlin nothing really went right for them in the second half and only managed a solitary score coming from James Rattigan with Rattigan terrible unlucky not to score a goal after his magnificent attempt came off the crossbar.

The killer blow came to Dunshaughlin after o'Mahoneys got the only goal of the game after 60 minutes despite the best attempts of Stephen Clusker in goals with O'Mahonys holding on to finish strongly to win by 5. Dunshauhglin can be proud of their efforts with all 6 backs playing well and credit must go to Garry Flanagan and Danny Geraghty who put their shoulder to the wheel and got on with things while upfront Jaames Rattigan and Shane Kelly recruit Brendan Duggan were always available and took their scores well.
