Duleek claim the spoils

April 08, 2002
Curraha's first intermediate game ended in defeat, as late points from an impressive Duleek attack were enough to earn the spoils. Duleek 0-12 Curraha 1-5 Duleek opened the scoring when Karl McDonnell hit a fine point from play Colin Duignan added another before Curraha got their first from a free. Tony Cunningham and Peter Curran added further points before Curraha finished off the half with only their second. It left the halftime score Duleek 0-04 Curraha 0-02. Duleek could have had three goals in the first half but for the brilliance of the Curraha net minder and poor finishing from Duleek forwards. The second half stated well for Curraha who scored a goal when it looked like a foul was committed on the Duleek full back Gordon Hynes. Curraha were now in the lead. And after two points for both sides it looked like they could hold out. However three unanswered points by Conal McGinley (2) and Robbie O'Neill had Duleek back in front by two and although Curraha brought it back to one, Duleek finished strongly with three unanswered points (Cunningham, Kenneth McDonnell, Duignan) to win by four. Duleek had some good performances especially in the fullback line where Gordon Hynes and Bryan Tallon were outstanding along with David Crosby. In attack Daire Ferguson although he didn't score tormented his man all day and was well supported by Kenneth McDonnell and Colin Duignan. Duleek- Ricky Nolan, Bryan Tallon, Gordon Hynes, David Crosby, Mark Cudden, Paul Martin, Kevin Smith, Tony Cunningham (0-02), Karl McDonnell (0-01), Peter Curran (0-01), Kenneth McDonnell (0-01), Conal McGinley (0-03), Daire Ferguson, Robbie O'Neill (0-01) Colin Duignan (0-03). Subs - Michael Johnson for P. Curran
